double post.

The morning rolls by with little to remark upon in the landscape and for all you can tell, as noon passes (i assume you make some sort of stop) and you continue getting to what you believe to be 3 hours or so, you start to see some more signs of life, a distant farm, planted orchard etc.

Jon admires the countryside, chatting amiably with his companions to stave off boredom but otherwise keeping alert for any possible dangers. If they pass any other travelers or any peasants or other locals hanging about near the road he'll pause briefly to inquire if things are well in the Drellin's Ferry area.

For those of you whose perception checks were 16 or higher, the following unfolds.

The road crests a small rise and descends into a dusky grove in a large shadowy dell. An abanded farmhouse partially visible through the trees stands to the northeast side of the road. You've passed through several spots like this today, but something feels wrong. then you catch a glimpse of mail, and spot several hobgoblins, at least 4, no 6, were hiding in cover along the road, and now starting to shoot.

OOC: Their initiative is 11, anyone not flat-footed may act in the surprise round, the closest two are 60 feet away on either side of the road.

At the moment they're a bit spread out, pairs are at 60, 80 and 100 feet away (one on each side of the road).

The road in this instance has a steep embankment, that takes 20 feet of movement, and the forest on either side has light undergrowth, taking 10 feet of movement to enter. (you get partial concealment and soft cover in the trees).

here's a map, currently you are in the north edge, and you see all the 'R's

Dalyn

[sblock=OOC] Well my minimum perception check is a 16, without modifiers. So I guess there's no longer a reason to roll that. Let's see if I can get combat taken care of.
Dalyn quickdraws his bow and fires at the nearest hobgoblin, attack/dmg +4 vs. goblinoids, +2 iniative if mountain.

Dalyn ac 20 hp 51 mv 30 Shadow ac 18 hp 35 mv 50

Dalyn quickdraws his bow and sends an arrow deep into the nearest foe, while ordering Shadow to attack. Unfortunately, Shadow is not as accurate as her friend this day.

Brutus hears the urgent whisper that snaps him out of his afternoon daydream. He had been walking with his company after a mission, remembering the faces of his friends from those days. He shakes his head and begins to glance around. He hears a *twang* and sees a blur of fur as Dalyn fires and shadow flies into the trees. Peering at the tree line he doesn't make anything out, and makes a fine target standing in the middle of the road staring at the trees.

"Beasts! Flee if you wish to live!" Jon is taken off guard as arrows sail through the air. He unlimbers his lance and with his free hand he forms a complex hand-sign, allowing power to flow from within him and shaping it with his thoughts and words, forming a crackling ball of lightning that he launches through the trees towards a nearby marauder.

[sblock]
Flat-footed during the surprise round, but on the first round he'll take a move action to ready his lance, and a standard action to cast and launch a lightning orb spell.

He'll also urge his horse to move forward, not to melee range, but within charging distance of one of the attackers.

This'll be a lot of rolls so I'll use invisible castle so it won't take up a huge block of screen.

Initiative:
1d20+1=14

Riding check to control with knees
1d20+5=21

spell failure chance (5%)
1d100=14 success.

Touch Attack roll for the lightning orb.
1d20+4=15

damage
3d8=12

Ambush Surprise Round!!

The hobgoblins let loose a ragged volley, as arrows fly all around, both Brutus and Lamad are struck (5 and 7 damage).

Jon's arrow flies back in response, striking one deep in its chest, just missing the heart. Shadow rushes the same and misses.

*End Surprise*
First round thus far,

Jon spits out a slew of words and the nearest hobgoblin not in melee, drops as a crackling ball of electricity hits it square in the face.

The hobgoblin facing the snarling Shadow, drops his sword and swings wildly, hitting Shadow for (5). The other four start yelling (if you understand goblin) that you'll die horrible deaths for killing Grashnark, death to the humans, etc. You hear what sounds like some sort of dog/wolf (knowledge planes, or knowledge nature).

There is 1 hobgoblin 30 feet away in melee with a cat, 2 40 feet away, 2 70 feet away.

[sblock]
I will look at what everyone does, then post an action for round 1 hobgobs, and then people respond etc.

[MENTION=40754]HandofMystra[/MENTION], i think you still need to post your char in http://www.enworld.org/forum/rogues...e-pathfinder-rhod-characters.html#post5343943
