D&D 5E Some 5ed Questions

DMG Page 82 "The closest threshold that is lower than the adjusted xp value of the monsters determines the encounter's difficulty."

In other words; the threshold total nearest to the monster xp total but still below it, is the correct encounter difficulty?

Reason I ask is because, if a basilisk has 700xp, then isn't the difficulty 'Hard'?

That being the case, isn't this picture's calculated total right?

*snip*

And this one wrong?

*snip*

The threshold that determined the difficulty of the encounter changed from the threshold above the adjusted xp value of the encounter to the threshold below the adjusted xp value of the encounter between Basic DMG v0.1 and v0.2. The encounter difficulty is Medium because 700 xp for the encounter is less than the 750 needed for the Hard threshold but more than the 500 needed for the Medium threshold. The second link must have been made during Basic DMG v0.1 and not updated.

That explains it

I think it also explains why the multipliers are wrong.

For example (Basilisk is 700xp)

1 Basilisk at x1 = 700xp
2 Basilisk at x1.5 = 1050 but both programmes in the above pictures give you 2100

No, the second one is correct. The adjusted encounter difficulty for an encounter with 2 basilisks and 4 PCs is 2100xp. 1400xp for both basilisks (700xp for each) *1.5 as the multiplier for 2100xp total.
