Some Action Point Stuff.

I'm generally lazy, and don't like keeping track of things. So when I started using the Action Point system in my current D&D campaign, I decided to just give each player 3 Action Points each game session. I also award points when players "do something cool".

I read somewhere that the designers of the d20 system wanted it to take about 13 encounters to go up a level. We get about 2-3 encounters in each session. That works out to around 4 Action Points per session. I subtracted one point to encourage players to "do something cool" at least once per session.

The only problem is that this starts to break down at higher levels as the number of Action Points you get increase. Its also a problem when you have a session where no one uses any Action Points at all--if you don't lose them, you lose them.

As far as uses for Action Points, one I use is that I let players suggest uses themselves, in game. If it's a fun idea, I let them.
