No Initiative Order: How Do You Do It?

So we almost cut waiting time in half. More importantly, players go in any order in both methods, but in the second one, they don't have to wait for a GM post before their turn, drastically cutting down on dead air. This also makes it easier on me, as I can do all the rolls I need to for the round, offense and defense, at once, instead of checking in continuously for player poposts.
Yeah, Sided Initiative is the fastest option I've seen specifically for PBP. It just takes a good faith effort to avoid dogpiling any one PC excessively during your turn. And that's pretty easy to handle.

Had a DM who almost totally randomized who was attacked with a d6 roll. We had five players. 1 thru 5 was for the players around the table. A 6 meant the DM picked based on their read of the battle at the moment.

I've yet to have a scene where every single NPC controlled by me could possibly reach or affect the same player character at the same time. It's pretty rare that the players are all going to be working on the same thing.

Actually, I don't see why the initiative system would make a difference to this specifically. You can just as easily focus fire no matter what order players take their turns in.
