D&D 5E Some discussion about the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide.

First Post
This thread is just some general discussion about the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide which can involve anything from likes, to dislikes, to things you have changed, or added, or taken away.

I have two things I would like to discuss first.

1: The Purple Dragon Knight - I believe in the mechanics matching the flavour so what I decided to do was alter their Rallying Cry ability to where it only gives temporary hitpoints and only lasts a number of rounds equal to the PDK's level to a maximum of 5 rounds if the person hasn't lost them first of course. To me this keeps up with the whole "fight on past their injuries" flavour. You may be able to push through your injuries but you can only do it for a small bit of time before you are hurting again.

2: The War Wizard's of Cormyr: I think this is a missed opportunity for an archetype for Wizards. I have always enjoyed the concept of a combat mage and I remember there was a PrC back in 3rd edition who was on the right track but never really made it. I was hoping 5th edition would have pulled something off but alas they didn't.

If they do similar books in the future, I would think a War Wizard would be likely as an archetype, Red Wizards as well. Time will tell.

What kind of things would you want a war wizard character to be able to do that a character isn't already able to do with the existing arcane traditions?

The current evoker appears to have taken anything I can recall a "war wizard" ever being provided, except for weapon and armor proficiency which can easily be picked up via feats or multi-classing if using those optional rules, so I'm not really seeing any purpose to having a war wizard tradition beyond wanting to have a tradition with that name rather than another.

Well the SCAG already included a gish sub-class for Wizards. Maybe in an AP.
