Dungeons and Dragons as a combo CCG and minis game makes perfect sense to me.
Your starter pack consists of heros and monsters, plus a selection of feat cards, spell cards, and magic item cards. Adventures consist of map tiles with trap cards and treasure cards.
Best of all, it could be played with or without a GM.
What makes anyone think that WotC cares enough about a bunch of graying grognards to not make a change like this? I've read numerous times that the CCG market is much more robust than the RPG market and that the d20 license/OGL hasn't worked out the way that WotC thought it would. It seems like a smart business decision to retool the product line while taking advantage once again of the Dungeons and Dragons brand name. If I had the choice to sell product to an aging, shrinking demographic or a younger, growing one, that would seem like a no-brainer to me. The heck with nostalgia.
