some magic items from my world (item creation rules? they make rules for that?)

First Post
well, here are some magic items i have placed in my campaigns. some recieved a good reaction, others were panned or left unrecognized. critique, lavish praise and brainstormed additions are welcome- as always :)

i hope to continue adding to this thread, and if you have something you wish to add pile on. :D

The Baubles of Boroo: There are 3 versions of this necklace, all thought to be created by Boroo the bard. Some scholars believe that Boroo did not make the necklaces but rather found them when adventuring in the winterlands.

Each necklace consist of a rather ornate setting for either 3,5 or 7 mundane looking stones. When the wearer touches a stone while listening to a speaker they can “record” that persons voice. That stone is then set to make the wearers voice sound exactly like the targets voice whenever the stone is tapped (+20 bluff check). Each stone can be set to one voice only, which it will keep until the stone is reset with another persons voice.

The necklace does not grant the ability to speak the targets language, with the exception of the 7 stone necklace. It remember the targets voice AND language, although it does not grant the wearer the ability to understand the targets language.

The Phallic Skewer: A normal looking longspear with carvings representing the ancient virility rights of hill giants, this spear can thrust outward 3 times per day reaching a total length of 30 feet. This action is preformed by the will of the user and does not add any weight.

The spear thrusts forward immediately and withdraws immediately. Anyone combating the wielder within reach gets an AoO. Defenders attempting to sunder this weapon get a +2.

Hammer of Matthias: This hammer is made of the blackest iron and may only be wielded by Lawful individuals. When used in combat it will automatically make a subdual blow without penalty if the wielders opponent would normally have been knocked below 0 HP with the blow.

Originally designed for Belzle Gudrun, the half-orc slaver, this hammer came into possession of the supposedly Chaotic priest Mathias when looting the remnants of Hilltopple House.

Bile Flail: This five-headed flail appears to be randomly etched on each of its spiked heads. When used in combat it automatically splashes acid from the heads on any successful strike against an evil opponent for an additional 1d6 acid dmg.

Setting Staff: Originally developed by Kuhlun de Woad during the defense of his hamlet from goblin worg riders, this spear appears to be a normal walking staff until an arcane spell caster hurls it in front of himself. It then transforms to a spear that balances itself at a 45deg. Angle in front of the caster. The spear automatically sets itself against charging opponents of the caster. It cannot be used for any other form of attack except for setting against a charge, although opponents trying to share a square with the spear receive a -2 on all attacks, as there is a big stick in the way.

Flowers of True Sight: These flowers, also developed for the defense of the hamlet belonging to Kuhlun de Woad, grow near the gates of many small villages in the winterlands. In these lands of permafrost and glaciers flowers are seen as the ultimate gift for a host to present to a guest. When presented by a member of the host community AND ACCEPTED FREELY BY THE GUEST act as a dispel magic on any polymorph or disguised creatures. The dispel works as if cast by a 14th lvl sorcerer.

The Sword With No Name.

This unusual weapon was made by Arion the Namer, by the imaginative expedient of detatching the Individual True Name from a sword, leaving it with only the Generic True Name 'Sword'. It thus became the Platonic Ideal of a sword, with no accidentals. The Sword With No Name has a grip and a blade, but they are of no specific size and are not made of any material: the sword is neither invisible nor in any way describable.

The The Sword With No Name may be carried in any sword-scabbard, and used as any sort of sword: it will always have the basic stats of type of sword it is being used as (presumably, the type with which its wielder's weapon familiarity and weapon focusses apply), with a +5 Ideal Bonus to attack and damage. Since the Sword with No Name has no actual size, shape, or colour it is difficult to parry or dodge, and a -1 Invisibility penalty applies to the AC of any target counting a Dodge, Parry, or Shield bonus against the wielder. The Sword With No Name has unlimited hardness.

Since the unnatural properties of The Sword With No Name result from a lack, not an enhancement, its unusual properties cannot be suppressed by an Anti-Magic Shell, Mordekainen's Disjunction, or any similar effect. It is not, strictly speaking, magical, and does not detect as magic. If any owner were to give The Sword With No Name a name, it would revert to being simply a masterwork bronze longsword in an extremely archaic style (the first sword ever made, in fact).

This trick can only ever be used to idealise the first example ever of any type.

Berserkr's Priapic Bearskin Belt

111 of these items were originally made (apparently by a cleric of Odin) for the Berserker Bodyguard of King Harald Härfagri, but (perhaps unfortunately) many have been destroyed over the millennia.

The belts consist of a long strip of supple bear-skin, with a fore-paw at either end. Their benefits accrue if they are wrapped three times around the waist widdershins, and tied in front in a reef knot.

Thus tied, a Berserkr's Priapic Bearskin Belt gives a +3 Armour bonus to AC. It also gives DR 2 (lawfulness, magic) on all areas of the body covered by clothing and DR 5 (lawfulness) on body parts that are skyclad or draped in wolf pelts or bearskin cloaks. Incidentally, the belt thus used induces a physical state of intense erotic excitement, with erectile members so turgid as to be 50% larger than their usual erect size. Unfortunately the emotional state induced by the magic of the belt tends towards ferocity rather than desire.

All the effects of the Priapic Bearskin Belt are doubled when the wearer is in a barbarian rage. Barbarian rages are doubled in duration for wearers of such belts.

The Sword With No Name.

This gets my vote for "coolest magic items posted on the boards" (even if not really magic). I like it -- it's creative and interesting. It also has severe drawbacks if the group doesn't have someone with the appropriate Knowledge...

"Ooh, a sword! I'll call it 'Fleshrender'."

Holy Cow!

I have something almost very similar IMC-- great minds I guess

Shard Weapons

These weapons are made form the portion of the idea of a weapon.

They are non magic and unbreakable. The function as masterpiece weapon (+2) to hit. The ignore any material or magic DR but are effected normally by structural DR (DM's call as to what is structural)

alsih2o... very nice, and nicely named.

Agback, a Platonic Form as treasure? And a belt of glaringly obvious masculinity... beautiful.

Just when I was starting to think that the majority of gamers around here where confusing D&D with accounting.

One of my own: an intelligent magical metal shield named The Emperor's Advisory Council on Bloodsport. Made for ancient gladiatorial champions, it can warn its owner if an opponent is feinting, and point out invisible creatures --in an audible, slightly nasal voice. It also provides loud, blow-by-blow running commentary. And it doesn't like pain. Though it does take satisfaction from its job. Hey, its in show-biz...

Serpent’s Tongue

History:

Forged by the dwarves of clan Foehammer over 500 years ago, the sword was wielded by their clan patriarch throughout the ages, as they battled the orc’s and ogres inhabiting their mountain home. It was 300 hundred years ago that the dwarves, with the help of their Haluraan allies, that they managed to push the humanoids back to the northern mountains. One hundred and fifty years ago the dwarven Hall of Cliffside was punished for their successful war, the orc’s and ogres, led by a fell orc shaman, laid siege to the hall. As their main gates repelled, assault after assault from the rank and fill troops, the orc shaman named Mal’Decosk, had his elite troopers tunneling into the back of the hall. For three weeks the orc’s laid siege, suffering horrible casualties. But on the evening of the new moon, Mal’Decosk led his elite troops into the hall. Their surprise was complete. The dwarves were slaughtered, forced to fight several desperate rearguard actions as they retreated deeper into their hall.

In the chapel dedicated to Clangidden, did Clan Foehammer’s king fall. One of his loyal kinsmen spirited the sword away from the battle and made it as far as the mid level of the hall before his own injures finally overtook him. The mighty great sword has lain for 150 years in the dark, waiting for a worthy warrior to again take it up and wield it against the forces of darkness.

Description:

The blade is silvered, and the hilt is made of mithril. The hilt resembles a coiled serpents body with the pommel ending in a serpent’s head. The eyes are small emeralds. The actual grip is made of a red leather, rough and allowing for a good grip even when the blade is slick. The blades name is inscribed in ancient dwarven upon the blade.

Game Mechanics:

+1 Great Sword

By speaking the name of the blade aloud in dwarven a magical serpentine tentacle will extend the blade from the hilt and cause it to threaten an extra five-foot area.

Further Powers:

+2 Great Sword

XP Cost: 400xp

By swearing to uphold the honor of all dwarves, and protect Clan Foe Hammer specifically the Serpent Tongue’s bond to its owner is strengthened, along with her bond to the magic that powers the sword.

Darkrazor

History:

Darkrazor was forged over a thousand years ago by the high priest of the Dweomerkeepers order of the Mystran church, and the Magister, High Magus Gryphon. They imbued the sword with their considerable power and presented it to the paladin Sir Kant. He used the sword to protect the Emperor of Halruaa as his personal Champion. He foiled assassination attempts, led armies, and journeyed far and wide in the service of his Liege. It was said that for as long as the country of Halruaa was true to the ideals of ancient Nethril, and Lady Mystra, would the Emperors Champion safe guard her borders.

The sword was passed down from paladin of Mystra to paladin of Mystra, always to the most righteous, and always confirmed by the high priest of the Dweomerkeepers. That is, until 200 hundred years ago, when the champion, Sir Merrik, went missing. He had been dispatched to investigate strange goings on I the north of the country and simply disappeared. All of the considerable divination magic of Halruaa was brought to bear to no avail. He and his party of comrades had simply vanished into the north.

Description:

The blade is silvered, and the hilt is made of a polished gold. The grip appears to be made of polished star stone, but it feels like the finest manta skin to the palm. . The pommel stone on the blade appears to be made of a solid gold plug, but when wielded by a true Champion it will change to the symbol of Mystra. The word truth are inscribed in draconic on one side of the blade, justice is inscribed on the other.

Game Mechanics:

+4 long sword

Additional powers:

XP Cost: 900XP
3/Day can cast Fire Shield on the user as an 18th level wizard
