Some more basic rules questions...

But if charge is a standard action, why can't you make a movement action? A round is comprised of a standard action and a movement action... I don't see why not? If all you can do that round is charge, why isn't it a Full Round Action, if it eats up both a standard action and a movement action?

Charge is not a standard action. It is a SPECIAL standard action (pg 124 PHB).

Special meaning it allows you to move twice your normal speed and still attack (so long as you follow the restrictions laid out by a charge, again pg 124)

Its a special standard action that allows you to move twice your speed and attack in the same round. That is all.

If you charge, all you can do is what it says you can do in the description of a charge attack. Nothing more.

If you could do more (or something other than attack), they would've worded it differently perhaps allowing a double move and an extra action or partial action at the end of your double move. But- since it says "attack" then that is all you can do: move double your speed and attack.

The standard action is a move and an attack. Both the move and attack are part of the standard action. A charge is a special standard action where you must move first, all in a straight line, up to twice your speed, then attack.
 

*nods* So there seems to be no way to move 60' and attacking without charging, correct? If you have no buffs, your base speed is 30, and no other mitigating factors.

A 9th- or higher level monk has a base move speed of 60 ft +. So barring that, I don't believe there is a way no.
 

Hmm... there's another way you can move 60 feet in a round and attack. You don't have to do anything special. You just have to be a god (they got higher base speed, e.g. 60 feet for medium sized gods) :D

Sure. Fall down a 60' cliff (I think most GMs will let you get by with a delebrate jump as a move equivelent action, and then you get a jump chack to treat it as only a 50' fall for damage). Have fun with the 5d6 to 2d6 (first 1d6 as subdual, -1d6 for a jump, -1d6 for tumble) falling damage :cool:

Of course I suppose this falls under mitigating factors, pardon the pun.
