SOMEWHAT OT: Silver Age Sentinels

Legend
Just picked up my deluxe limited edition hardcover of SAS, and I've got two things..no three... to say...

1) Finally a nice fluid and simple SuperHero RPG that's not wonky (I like the BESM system, so I knew this would be great) I love HERO, but I just have no desire to run it...not that HERO is wonky...just most simplifed Supers rules are wonky...This looks like it's gonna be fantastic...It immediately got my creative juices rolling on thinking up a Golden age period game (I know it's SILVER age sentinels...but I've always liked the 30's and 40's era for Supers)...

2) This is... BY FAR, the most beautiful RPG book I've EVAR seen. I suspect it will clean everyone's clock for awards next year. Layout, graphics, everyting is just incredible...I thought the FRCS and the Tenchi Muyo RPG would be hard to beat...not now...

3) I'd pay 45 bucks a pop (Actually I only paid $32 for SAS, but you'll get my point) with no reservation for a 3E PHB, DMG, and MM that is a nicely done as SAS...

Ok..I'm done babbling on...awesome book... check it out...

Thank you kindly for your compliments. We are exceptionally pleased with the reception of the Tri-Stat Edition. It is, undoubtedly, the best game we have ever published in every way.

For the d20 fans (more relevant for this board), the 336-page hardcover d20 Edition ($39.95) will be available in August and premiering at GenCon.

I haven't picked up Silver Age Sentinels yet, but it sounds like what I'm looking for. I used to love Hero, and there was a time when I revelled in the complexity, but I couldn't even bring myself to pick up 5th edition.

Wow! Sounds nice.

When I looked it up on Amazon, I noticed that it wasn't released yet -- or that Amazon didn't think it was. I might pick it up on your strong recommendation (and others I've read on-line) at a good price.

Amazon.com is inaccurate. They will not have any copies of the Deluxe Limited Edition (Tri-Stat), but they should carry the d20 Edition when it is available in August (though it may be September until Amazon ships it; I am unsure of their policies).

The price of the DLE is $44.95. Amazon.com not only lists it when they won't have any in stock, but they also have the old price listed.

The d20 edition is $39.95.

Hope this clears things up a little. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks, GoO, that does clear things up.

Could you explain how the d20 version will work, compared to the variant-BESM "core" version?

In brief: the core class and ability score and combat concepts are kept as they are. On top of all of this is added the point-based power creation mechanism that covers superspeed, telekinesis, etc. Abilities are measured in different ranks (usually 1-10) which are acquired by spending Power Points.

Those familiar with Tri-Stat will recognize many elements and have no problem at all adapting. Those only familiar with d20 will experience a new dimension to d20 that presents powers in an innovative, intuitive fashion. It fits seemlessly with d20 game play and handles the entire range of superhuman characters from street vigilantes to spandex heroes to galactic entities. We believe it is the ideal mechanic for superhero role-playing.

Hope this helps.

I just picked up my copy a few days ago, and i gotta say i'm loving it so far...

I haven't had time to fully go through it yet, but so far it seems very well done, and incredibly flexible.

I also liked the "Campaign Setting".. it captured all the elements of a typical Super-Hero Comic Book setting...

Crowe, did you ever play Champions/Hero? I'd love to hear the opinions of anyone who's played both Champions and Silver Age Sentinels.
