Song of Fire and Ice question

Considering that we never hear from him again after that scene, and when we left him he was fighting a veteran knight clad in full armor while himself armed with only a stick, it's probably safe to assume that Syrio died.
Side Note: Is the knight mentioned again after that? (I don't remember if he was a Named NPC or not. :)

Meryn Trant?

He even makes Arya's List.

Weese, Dunsen, Chiswyck, Polliver, Raff the Sweetling. The Tickler and the Hound. Ser Gregor, Ser Amory, Ser Ilyn, Ser Meryn, King Joffrey, Queen Cersei.

Arya is such a happy go lucky little girl... :D

I really look forward with what Martin does with that character.

The knight was one of the kingsguard, of course he was named. ;)

Is never seen in the first 3 books again. I still am holding out hope he pops up though. I mean he was first sword to the king of Braavos. He is the best fencer in the land, no studid knight could really beat him

Right. Even with a stick he should have no trouble to beat a Ser Meryn! Go, Syrio! :D

He probably just was the same guy who gave Arya the coin. ;)

What i've learned from Martin is that he's an unpredicatable genius.

Nah, he is very predictable. I could predict many of the happenings or at least the general trend, while reading the series for the first time, which I still am, actually... currently half-way through A Storm of Swords. :)

I don't think there are many folks who give the Syrio=Jaquen much crediance, there are too many holes. Check out one of the various huge threads that pop up every six months or so covering the subject at aSoI&F

So he is named afterwards as being alive? (Arya might not know if he's dead.)
If he's alive, it'd be a huge cop out for there to be no mention of Syrio's escape I'd think. One of them should have died.

Oh, Trant is very much alive, or at least someone who's very similar to Trant, both in appearances and mannerisms is. :)

Yeah Martin has two very almost nearly unfailable rules:

Rule 1: if a character is happy for more then a chapter some great and awful evil will befall them or someone they love.

Rule 2: Unless you "see" the body one can make no assumptions as to wether the person is actually dead or not.

Rule 2a: Even if you "see" the body this in no way guarentees that said character will stay dead. This is known as the Catelyn addendum. Could also apply to the cold zombies.
