Soon available to paint 4U

One of WotC's main strengths in their product line is their standard-setting art and graphic design in their books. Releasing thier entire staff in that department is a move that makes me shake my head; while it might make sense given that they'll be cutting back to a less than a dozen releases or so a year for D&D, I don't see the point in willfully giving up one of thier biggest advantages in the quest for the consumer dollar.

Good luck, Todd. I have a feeling you won't be missing many meals next year, as d20 companies raid their piggy banks to get you on board. Keep up the good work!

You HAVE to be joking! This is utter nonsense! At least I know that mine is not the only company inthe world with no respect for visuals. I work for a multi-discipline design firm which speiclizes mostly in architecture, and of course when the layoffs come the Graphic Design department is the first ones hit. The only reason I'm still here is ocs they need me to do promotions to get more work.

Tood, I can only hope that even though WotC has :):):):)-canned you that you'll be the better man and still freelance for them. I cannot abide the though of seeing your art go from D&D products.

Way back when the first pieces of 3e concept art started trickling out, I was a staunch supporter of your and Sam's styles and the direction you were taking the look of D&D. I argued tooth-and-nail with "purists" who wanted the Elmore style and nothing else and I still stand by my belief that you and Sam were the best things to happen to fantasy RPG art since DiTerlizzi. You brought it out of the dark ages (so to speak) and proved that fanatsy RPG art does not have to be boring.

In short, THIS SUCK ASS!

Well, I for one am very disappointed. As an artist, a writer, and a roleplayer, I have to say that I am very into 3rd Edition D&D BECAUSE of its truly fabulous art and creativity. With the art department disappearing, and the most of the creative guys already gone, I have to say that I am shocked.

It may seem sad, but every time I pick up a new WotC product, the first thing I do is flip through the pages and look at the art. If it has nice art, I'll buy it. If not, I'll wait for someone else to buy it!

Who did I look for? Todd Lockwood, Sam Wood, Kev Walker, Wayne Reynolds, Jeff Easley. Big names in the world of fantasy art.

I don't know how many of these were in-house, but it seems that an awful lot of talent has just become available...

Hope to see more of Todd's art soon...

I completely agree, and I'll even go so far as to say that not only was that concept work some of your personaly best stuff, Todd, but it's the best stuff that has ever been put out there under the D&D brand.

Still, it's heartening to me to see that Hasbro can manage WotC into the ground, thereby hastening the sale of D&D back to the gamers at large.

Long live d20, and good luck, Todd! Don't be too bitter, bro-- it's just a job.

I agree, first thing I did was gawk at a Todd cover and look for his and WAR stuff. I would have to say you will see Todd's stuff soon, he is too good to be wasted. I really love his stuff and knowing it won't be in any more WoTC stuff (please freelance for them) gets me angry  .

Once again Todd, from a fan and a publisher, all the best. And maybe we will see you on/in more of our stuff!

Maybe WOTC could just cut Hasbro, and keep Todd :-) Too late by far I suppose, partiularly since the ownership relationship runs the opposite direction!

You know what I think!

I think all the former wotc employees cut loose by Hasbro should start thier own D20 company and spill some Hasbro blood!!!!!!

while I'm no venture capitalist, but I'd drop a few shekels to help get something like that off the ground!

Alls I can say is that this is a golden day, indeed, for the d20 community -- we just scored one of the sweetest artists around. :)

Still thinkin' that the tide's shifting into the third party for most things. If WotC is getting rid of their staff, chances are that those who have created 3e have a very warm reception wherever they turn.
