D&D 5E Sorcerer - how to improve my intiative? (Or maybe another solution?)

This is why I love War Wizards so much.

Everyone gets hung up on the mediocre later level abilities, but fails to notice the amazing 2nd level ability of +Int to initiative.

As an Alert Vuman, my Wizard was rocking +10 to Initiative at 2nd level, and it's going to increase as I advance in level.

"Sorry, I was already casting by the time you charged in."
"Didn't see you there."
"I thought you had cover."
"What? You can't handle a little fireball?"

On the otherside, the new Wildemount book has a spell called Gift of Alacrity. 1st levell. No concentration. +d8 to initiative.

If he rushes a chunk of clustered together enemies, just fireball him. He'll learn. Make it up to him by hasting him and the ranger in another fight.

I played a Mountain Dwarf barbarian/fighter for 18 levels (one fo my first 5E PCs) . I never went down from lost hps and I did not focus on AC at all. The party wizard fireballed me dozens of times. I used to position myself to be at the center of the fireballs.

Yeah, Barbarians:

1. Almost certainly have the most HP in the party (biggest HD and incentive for high CON);

2. Take 1/2 damage much of the time,

They're usually among the last to go down, even though they're frontline heavy hitters!
