D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Are the sorcerer and the wizard basically the same, or pretty different?

Ya know, if I released that when I voted that this was a necro'ed thread, or I saw this back in 2015 I would have voted differently. I had very little time for the 2014 sorcerer. Just felt it was to restricted, particularly is spell selection. The new subclasses coming with additional spells prepared help a lot.
I would actually be interested in trying out a 2014 sorcerer.

IMO, 2024 does a better job differentiating them than 2014.

But they are still very similar and would rather have something else, like a warlord.
I want a Warlord too, and have for a long time now. But I don't think it was a choice between these and a Warlord. Artificer was maybe a choice between it and Warlord but Warlord was never going to be a core class in this game given the throw-back choice they made when initially designing 5e.

I'd like a Swordmage and Warden class too.

Any of those would of been better than another full caster.
And if you want to throwback, call it a Marshall.
