SOS, MAYDAY, New DM in deep s--t, going down... *BOOM*

Also LISTEN to your players as they talk about the campaign, their PC's, the previous session, during the game etc...
They will give your more ideas on how to guide their characters and your campaign world than you could ever think up on your own.
This way they feel a part of the campaign in a way that is different than just showing up and reacting for their characters.
Most people go see movies and read books because it identifies with something inside them. If you let your players "guide" the campaign in basic things they will keep coming back.

You're GOING to screw up in a major way McCloud. Accept it. No amount of prep work is going to make you a flawless DM from the word "go". Worrying about making mistakes isn't going to prevent them either. Run the best game you can. The rest will work itself out.
