Soul Calibur 2 {GC import}

Conquest mode doesn't happen to be in there anywhere does?

Might not work so well for a home version with out and online component, but still.

Different weapons with different properties are unlocked in Weapon Master mode --a semi-Story mode with themed battles and such-- along with new stages, characters and costumes. You also earn money, which is used in turn to buy even more gewgaws in the shop.

Quite right, though a few weapons are sometimes unlocked for free, just as little bonuses for winning battles in Weapon Master. Characters have quite a few weapons, and the weapons have different powers. I'm still working on what those powers are, but some of them seem to be unblockable, others have vampiric healing (damage you deal to your enemy heals you a like amount), heavy defense, heavy offense, slow healing, etc. Every character has a joke weapon, a Soul Edge weapon, and another weapon thats optimal for them, plus several others with different effects.

I've only unlocked a few weapons, and I haven't tried using them in vs. mode. I assume you can use them outside of Weapon Master Mode, as in Soul Blade.

You can use them Outside of Weapon Master, but only in the "Extra" modes. You can't use them in Practice, for example, but you can in Extra Practice. Every mode as an Extra version, save for Weapon Master, which doesn't need it.

Kilik seems to have all his old moves, plus some new ones. I'm not stringing them together well at this point, but judging my the AI's use of him, he's even deadlier.

Kilik is there, and is a good character to use. I can't offer any comparison, not having played the previous games though.

Sophitia is an unlockable character --her sister/cousin/clone Cassandra is selectable from the start. I was never any good with her {props to Lizardman here, now him I liked}, so I can't say much about the changes to her. Every character seems faster, as well as having all new combo chains.

Lizardman, Berserker, and Assassin are in the game, but only as opponents, not selectable characters. The only way to play as them is during one particular area of Weapon Master. You play as a three-character team, with those three characters being the team.

And Link...

...looks to be one of, if not the strongest overall character. He's fast, he hits hard, his sword repetoire has of Hwang/Xianhua, a bit of Cervantes... So far, use of the bow, boomerang and bomb are just... cool. In fact, detrimental, seeing as its easy to get caught up trying to utilize them when a simple sword-pounding would do the trick.

Does Link fit into the Soul Calibur ouvre? Let me put it this way, does Yoshimitsu fit in anywhere?

I think that means "yes". :)

Nope, sorry. There is no Conquest mode that I've seen, and I've got virtually everything. It was Weapon Master, Arcade, Practice, Vs Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, Vs Team Battle, and the Extra versions of those.
