Soul Knife - What is the point?

But PsyWar is fine on its own, and realistically a Gestalt of the two is basically just giving a bunch of crappy toys to the PsyWar, at its core it would be a PsyWar class in feel, not a Soulknife.

At best, though, you use a move action to charge up your psychic strike, which means you can't skirmish.
Nope, it just means you don't get to make an optimal attack every round -- possibly not even an attack each round! Some rounds you move and recharge, other rounds you move and strike, yet other rounds you move and make a ranged attack, or make a ranged attack and then re-charge your psychic strike and/or psionic focus.

I would assume that the Soul Knife is a perfectly fine mechanical character for a game geared to characters of the proper Tier. So the question is really what Tier is the Soul Knife and what other classes fit in that Tier and can a party of characters using classes from the Tier have an adventure together?

Paladin's in the same tier as them? Even with Spell Compendium spells, the Battle Blessing feat, and the Serenity feat? *Shrug* I recall not agreeing with many of the placements in that anyway.

It's noted that optimization can change what tier a class is, but, well, to use the paladin as an example, you have to have good knowledge of the system and several specific sourcebooks in order to do it.

Most of the time when you make a paladin, it's going to be a tier 5 class.
