Soulknife: Does anybody like this class? Other classes that ???

I just discovered the Soulknife in the Psionics Handbook (CORE for Eberron). I'm wondering how the class plays? Does it suck like the monk or the Hexblade?

One of my players really enjoyed his soulknife and played from levels 1 - 8 when he met an unfortunate end in Gehenna.

He had even work in a fairly standard attack routine and procedure for his guy.

I don't think the monk or the hexblade suck, but I see no reason to use the soulknife in my game. Way too narrow a concept to justify a core class IMO.

Yeah, I don't think the monk sucks at all. I personally like the Soulknife, although, from what I've seen it's a pretty weak class. The one 3.5 Soulknife was never a good fighter (he took handy feats and such, but the weak BAB and low hit die were bad) and he just wasn't effective. I liked the Soulknife better in 3.0 when it was a PrC.

The soulknife is a cool class. Since it has made the jump from a PrC to a Core class, it is even more interesting. I played a Core soulknife a couple a months ago. It was definetely fun. I got to 8th level then pick up 5 levels in Erudite. The Erudite appeared in Dragon Mag #319 (May 04). I had a really good time playing this character.

I hadn't thought the hexblade or soulknife were so bad (I prefer the Blade Manifester from Hyperconscious) but the monk has had the deck stacked against it from day one.

I'm currently playing a soulknife, when my group is able to get together. At 6th level, he's half the party's front line, alongside the party's werebear PC. I really enjoy playing him. His biggest weakness is a low AC (by choice--so armor check penalties don't interfere with his tumbling or jumping checks). But with combination of lucky rolls, a high Con, and the Psionic Body feat (and subsequent psionic feats) he has 84 HP.

His favorite tactic is to keep his mindblade charged with his Psychic Strike ability, and then boost it with Psionic Shot. Before engaging in melee, he uses the Throw Mindblade ability to start with, then manifests the mindblade again, uses a move action to enable the Psychic Strike, and wade into the fray.

I really enjoy playing him. Sure, like Psion pointed out, it's a rather narrowly focused class, but he's been a blast to play so far.

Low HD? It gets a d10!

He does? Oops. Not playing the Soulknife myself, I didn't spend a lot of time with the numbers. I just remember him not dealing a lot of damage and not being able to take a lot of damage. Maybe he just rolled poorly all the time.
