What sounds do spells make?
Yeah, I know there are verbal components, but what about after?
Does mage armor or shield humm?
Or spark when it gets hit?
Fireball probably sounds like a fireball.
Lightning bolt probably comes with thunder.
Blaphemy, dictem, holy/unholy word are probably _real_ loud?
But what about Horrid Willting?
Or unholy blight?
Does Fly come with a sound track?

And if you have the feat silent spell, that silences the casting, how about the spell itself?

More later,

I use Elements of Magic - Revised instead of the core magic system, and players/PCs designing their own spells is a major part of the rules. I ask them to describe how the spell appears to the five senses, and it's up to them to describe it. Most of the players want their protective spells to be fairly unobtrusive, but others like the effects to be noticeable.

I generally leave those kinds of descriptions up to the players in the core magic system too.

I've been tinkering with sound effects in RPG soundmixer. Ideally, i'd like to have popular/common spells tied to certain keys, so when a fireball goes off, i hit "F" for a Whoosh! and Boom! Likewise, ethereal, tinkling effects would be good for the more mundane spells. I wonder if there's a way to import all the spell effects from Icewind Dale? Hmm...........

I've got a few sound rsrc files I use on my Powerbook. It's nice to be able to make a BOOM sound whenever the PCs sling a fireball.
