I'm looking for digitised images of naive medieval woodcuts representaing angels, demons, peasants, etc. Would anyone know of a source for this ? The kind of art I'm looking for is comparable to what can be found on here

I was ABOUT to suggest one...

and then noticed it was the EXACT site you had linked to.

Please tell me if you do find more like it.

Here's what I found after looking through the Grove Art:

* Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) — not all of these are woodcuts, but quite a few are — http://www.si.umich.edu/Art_History...st/_Artist__D/DURER__ALBRECHT_Albrecht_D_rer/

*As a matter of fact, this is the entirety of woodcuts available at UMich through the section above (I didn't sort all the way through them, but by clicking on a thumbnail, you'll get the pertinent information, so you can sort out what you want) — http://www.si.umich.edu/Art_History/demoarea/htdocs/_browser/_Medium/_woodcut/

* Hans Holbein, The Dance of Death (1538) — I'm assuming you've seen this (b/c of your link), but just in case —

Here are some names you might want to look up as well — Hans Baldung, Domenico Beccafumi, Hans Burgkmair, Firabet of Rapperswil, Giuseppe Scolari, and Michael Wolgemut. The Grove Art lists all of these as being artists who did woodcuts, and places them between 1493-1582 (Scolari is the 1582, so he might be later than you want, but...there it is anyhow). Hope this helps some. I would've gone through them more exhaustively and given you direct links, but I really need to get onto my studies and things. :)

Best,

Isn't Eric Hotz the acknowledged "Woodcut Guy" for the gaming world.

I have no idea where to find hs tuff...maybe do a goodle search for his name.

Thanks guys !

I guess I should have explained why I'm looking for this kind of illustration. In my game, the characters will soon discover an ancient controversial book that describes a version of the mythology and cosmology of the world. Instead of telling them "you find the book" i'm actually writing it, and I want to give it to them. I thought the medieval woodcut style of illutrations would fit best.

I didn't know about Eric Holz. His stuff is great ! Do you know if he was the one who illustrated Ars Magica's Malleus Maleficarum ?
