Southern Exposure (PA, DE, NJ) ENworld Gathering! [9/29-10/2]

I admit the program looks a good deal smaller this year, which is somewhat disappointing.

I'd suspect that's reflective of their experiences last year, which was the first year that the Double Exposure folks ran the con.

I was a DM at Southern Exposure last year (various RPGA modules), and I know that more than a few of the RPGA events that were in the schedule either (a) never went off, due to lack of players, or (b) didn't have as many tables as planned.

On the other hand, I'll be glad to run a pickup game or two...and equally glad to play in others. I've never played 7th Sea or Munchausen, and I am sorely itching to play some Mutants and Masterminds.
I'd love to play Mutants and Masterminds. If only the 2nd edition were out by now; I'd love to give it a try.

I've only played 7th Sea the once, and it was the swashbuckling setting more than anything that appealed to me. Plus, the scenario was essentially Romeo and Juliet, and getting to ham it up as a lovestruck Romeo was tons of fun. (The instruction from the GM: "You're a lovestruck fool. If things slow down in the game, or the plans of the other players go off too smoothly, then do something lovestruck and foolish to stir it up a bit.)

Munchausen isn't really an RPG, but it has RPGish elements. It's a game of competititve tall tales. A typical game might start with one player asking another, "My dear Baron, I've heard so much about your exploits, why don't you regail us with the story of how you saved the most beautiful woman in Bohemia from being carried of by the King of the Moon, using only your wits and half a horse, and in so doing invented fondue." Throw in some basic rules for the other players throwing in complications, "Ah but Baron, you could not have possibly climbed to the top of the collossus of rhodes, since as everyone knows it had fallen into the ocean the year before", and it can become very silly very quickly.

I'll see what I can throw together. According to Green Ronin, the book should be available in stores...any time now. Heck, they might have it there. Regardless, I'll bring my M&M stuff, and we'll see what happens.

This almost sounds like it was written for me. ;)

Had a good time this weekend, especially meeting those of you who attended - too bad I couldn't spend more time there, but a pregnant wife comes first...

I was a bit disappointed in the con overall. Almost none of the RPG events had full tables. The best game I played wasn't even one I planned to play. I was planning on a Saturday morning of the new Blackmoor, which was cancelled and ended up playing a demo of Burning Wheel - and it was one of the most unique, coolest RPGs I've ever seen - where dueling with your words is given as much attention to detail as physical combat.

The Friday afternoon Greyhawk City of Skulls disguised as a home-brew? Woulda been cool if I was able to stay to the end, but the pregnant wife had false labor and I hadda run off.

The old-school D&D Rules Cyclopedia game - ehh - there wasn't much story to it, and we (four 5th level characters) got scuffed by 5 ghouls because my cleric was paralyzed in the first few seconds of the fight - but I *did* get to then meet all of the ENWorlders there - which was cool.

The guy running the D&D RC game was also running House of Strahd, otherwise I would've stayed for that as well.

I should have *planned* on playing the RPGA events since they had more attendees and more full tables. As it was, I didn't intend to play RPGA events and didn't have any of the necessary campaign materials.

I couldn't make it eventually (was proofreading a 300 page manuscript instead :(), so I'll look forward to a recap (hopefully) from Wizardru and get one in person from Michael Tree. Ah, the joys of living vicariously!

Sorry you couldn't make it. And thanks to 3catcircus and Michael for preventing it from becoming an abject failure. :) As well as thanks to Heirodule for popping his head in, lest I forget.

I will be posting my traditional post-con wrap-up in a day or two, after Valanthe has a chance to edit and webify the pictures.

Nice for the recognition! Thanks. Maybe next time I'll join you all for dinner, but my Living Greyhawk game (Keoland mod Burning Brightly) ran a bit long and so I had to bow out. (Sheesh, what a grind that module is! we lost 2 charcaters of our 4 (+ cohort). But nice plot elements.)

It did seem a bit small. There was another big RPGA con in virginia (TideCon) that probably subtracted some players from it, as well as Ubercon having an LG interactive this month that also might have cannibalized some players away.

I played some Carcasssone, though, which was a bonus.
