Sparta-like Empire

......

And there's the sound of me contacting a mod.

Edit: Thorne, delete your quote of the Eric's Grandma-rule violator, please. It's foul.

Also, I don't exactly like the idea of Hobgoblins and Humans making up Sparta. It would seem to take away from the Empire as a normal Empire. I would like my players not to see this Empire as pure evil

How about Humans, Orcs and Half-Orcs? These might be the ONLY Half-Orcs who were not likely to be the result of rape.

EDIT: I remember long, long ago, in a box far, far away, the Orc was described as "Lawful" (in opposition to the Elf, who was clearly described as "Chaotic"). So IMHO a society of fanatically Lawful Orc, Half-Orc and Human people would be nicely "olde-schoole".

Oasiskid, you are permanently banned. When you signed up you agreed to a certain standard of behaviour and this is completely outside what is permitted.

On a completely unrelated note - Celebrim, I dropped an email to your m42@h.c address a couple of days ago... did it arrive?

In the Cressia setting I picked up from these boards is a region (Stympa) based on Greek City States but set in high rugged mountains. The cities were a mix of human and hobgoblin who had historically (ie in their development stage) met and intermingled. As a nation they were very militant (very Sparta) and favoured strength. It was for this reason that the humans recognised the hobs and equals. Later even Ogres were welcomed into their armies - because although they might be brutish they were strong and effective in battle.

Anyway although each city is independent and worships its own god, these gods are interelated within a single pantheon. Overarching the pantheon are three Fates (Norns) who are recognised by all cities, the priestesses of this Cult form the intergrating nexus for the 'Stympa nation'.

Anyway thats how I got Humans, Hobs and Ogres to mix as 'equals' in a single nation

What about the Sparta being composed of half-orcs? Maybe humans and half-orcs..... It'd give half-orcs an interesting place in the setting, not just the offspring of Very Bad Things.

Perhaps a relic of some earlier era where orcs hadn't descended so far into uncivil barbarism, and some intermingled with humans of a respected militant clan or canton. Over time they separated from social and religious schisms, but the human/half-orc group continued to practice its ways and developed into this Spartan empire over time.

Maybe the Helots of this Sparta are orcs who were later conquered by the 'upstart halfbreed kingdom' and forced to humble themselves before their 'betters'.......and what began as simply an act to make distant, orcish cousins respect the newfound power of the half-orc/human alliance, devolved into a brutal oppression of those orcs after the next pair of Spartan kings took over......

Just tossing out an idea in vein of what others had been suggesting with hobgoblins.
