Special Conversion Thread: Aboleths

Were we upgrading astral traveler to astral caravan? And what's the non-psionic equivalent we were including for these (do we need to edit the greater aboleth again?)?

Edit: reading the powers, doesn't astral traveler require astral caravan to get anywhere? And is something like a modified shadow walk the correct equivalent?

I have a question, I may have missed it at some point...but where did the "telekinetic 'X'" psi-like abilities come from?

Good question...let's see...<looks back>...Starting at this post, we determined that telekinetic powers were a more suitable replacement for spectral force than another weak illusory power.

I think we agreed upon the upgrade to Astral Caravan for the Noble.

I would think in the non-psionic conversion, the greater aboleth would get nothing and the noble would then get greater teleport.

Or, you could give the greater aboleth greater teleport and then give the noble aboleth teleportation circle.

Not exactly the same flavor but accomplishes their slave transportation needs. :]

I'm fine with greater teleport/teleportation circle, though I wonder if shadow walk is closer in flavor.

However, what I don't understand is how the greater aboleth can get anywhere with only astral traveler. All astral traveler lets you do is participate (or let the target participate) in another astral caravan. So shouldn't both the greater and noble aboleth get both astral traveler and astral caravan? There could be a limit on travelers for the greater aboleth or something.

According to the ecology, when a common aboleth contacts a greater aboleth to pick up slaves, the greater and a noble, using probability travel, come to pick up the slaves. So basically, a greater needs the noble for transport to pick up the slaves. Since 3.5 abolished probability travel and divied it up into astral passenger and astral caravan, it was a way to divide the responsibility of transportation. The Noble could also have astral passenger, but maybe to a lesser degree.

Just a way to keep the dependance on the Noble.

Exactly.

Perhaps, rather than trying to fit this into an existing non-psionic ability, we should simply adapt astral caravan to a non-psionic ability to suit our needs?

I was thinking of the same thing. Possibly making Probability Travel a Supernatural Ability?
