D&D 4E (Speculation) 4e Monks Will be Defenders, Methinks

The Playtest is out. The Monk is a Psionic Striker. The build in the Playtest is meant for Dex/Wisdom builds but there will be Dex/Str build in the PHB3 as well.

I don't know, it could be pretty effective.

I think the monk is gonna wish he had the Barbarian's AC, and not too many people wish for that. Cloth only for a +2 bonus that does not scale. Hopefully there will be something that will give a serious bonus, like some of the powers. I see a lot that gives them get in and get out quick movement abilities, but they need both in and out in a single round.

But their primary stat is Dex. The +2 from the class feature puts them in the same range of AC as a rogue, which isn't shabby. +4 from dex, +2 from the class feature /is/ in the range of chain mail at least, which isn't bad at all for a striker. And they can go the two weapon defense route to get a bit more AC and still keep their class feature, since the Monk Unarmed Strike is classed as Off-hand.

I just wonder if I don't have any weapons in my hand, am I considered to be wielding 2 weapons? Would potentially make a tempest fighter/Monk multiclass nice, having 2 +3 1d8 off hand weapons.

Can't really reveal much more of the playtest without the brass knuckles knocking down my door .

This seems to be a trend; Striker with elements from another class.

Avenger: Striker with Defender
Sorcerer: Striker with Controller
Monk: Striker with Controller

Maybe its a good thing; everyone wants to be a striker, so lets just build strikers that fit all the roles.
