D&D 5E Speculation on the Remaining UAs in 2017

5 days ago, he said it, and it has had very mixed reaction, in favour of keeping d8 and renaming the mystic, as far as i can tell. Very little opinion on the immortal as a fighter subclass, some are upset about that, others think it might pave the way for a soulblade rogue.

Personally, I'm in favour of d8, keeping the mystic subclasses where they are now, and giving the rogue a soulblade.

This. Plus, in another tweet a few days before this one, I think, either Crawford or Mearls said that the Mystic stuff had been pushed back in the queue by other stuff, but no hint at what that was.

Crawford, judging by the fact he was replying to me. I was rather disappointed that mystic was pushed back, since I was planning to make my next character a mystic. I suspect that the reason it was pushed back because of these weekly UA releases. I had been wondering whether Mystic would make an appearance before paladin.

Sorry, I meant I read that today; bit of a brain fart.

mearls just now confirmed that Ranger is in the queue, and that the subclasses will work with both versions of the Ranger.

Ranger. Not so sure on this one either. The hunter does quite well as a general ranger class and we already have a beast master subclass. I'm not sure what else needs to be added.

Rogue. No idea, the rogue has a few good subclasses already, I'm not sure what else they need.

Sorcerer. Some more elemental bloodlines would be nice. They've done a fey theme a few times so I wouldn't mind seeing a take on a fey themed bloodline as well.

Warlock. I'm hoping to see their take on the sha'ir, after playing around and trying to come up with a version myself, I really feel this class fits best as a warlock pact.

Wizard. I'm hoping for an elementalist, perhaps not one specific to an element but to the elements as a whole.

Ranger: echoing the sentiment that we'll probably see a return of the Horizon Walker at some point. Same for the urban ranger, although that one is predictable enough to maybe no make the cut.

Rogue: I likewise think we'll be seeing a 1/3 divine caster rogue, but I also wouldn't be surprised if a strength-based subclass reared its head, it was a popular choice in 4th and it helps with the brutish thug/gangster type rogues.

Sorc: Just more bloodlines I'm guessing. Not much else to say here, they've fairly well painted themselves into a corner on sorc progression.

Warlock: I'd like to a see a vermin/insect/swarm themed warlock, though I'm not sure how you'd prepare that in the context of the pacts. I would have liked a swarm druid too, but that ship has sailed for the time being. I would also very much like to have a dedicated pet style warlock, but that's also not likely to show up given how contentious the development of the ranger has been.

Wizard: Demonology/summoning specialist. I don't envy trying to balance classes like these, but they're definitely among my favorites. Polymorph/shape-shifter is a possibility as well, being an arcane mirror to the moon druid.

Of all the 3e prestige classes, I did like the Daggerspell Mages as the concept of dual dagger wielding casters was a really neat one, but as a subclass of any class it would be hard to see where they might fit in.

I don't think they will do 2 evil/creepy UA's in a row, but rangers have a lot of potential to be evil*: there are a bunch of evil canine-looking critters in D&D, and I can see a ranger subclass that focuses on hellhounds, shadow mastiffs, yeth hounds and/or winter wolves (maybe having to blow a spell slot every day to summon one to make up for these pet's greater power compared to the other AC's), and I could see some kind of creepy version a big game hunter: the fetish conclave.

* Although since I think the weekly UA ranger will not be in alphabetical order, since they just released a version a couple of months ago, then it wouldn't really be 2 in a row.

Edit: A less evil option might be an artificer-like trapmaster with an aptitude for building traps and using poison.

I'm probably the only one that's pushing for the idea of a Witcher as a Ranger subclass. But I feel that the alchemy part from the video game is too much to go into too much detail. The option to get a few arcane spells, and something related to preparation and planning when monster hunting is probably what I'd settle for, if there was a hypothetical Witcher subclass.
