speech-to-text?

can anyone here recommend a decent free speech to text program?

i amlooking for something that can at least be tried for free. i have a friend who recently aquired a physical disorder that is making it difficult for him to type, and i would like to help out.

i downloaded "dictation 2002" and it was horrid.

any suggestions?

I have an RPM/RPG friend with a severe disability, who gets by quite well with Dragon Dictate.

I can't tell you if there's a free or trial version, but its apparantly "The One".

I'll check on that for you.

That was actually "Dragon Naturally Speaking 7.0", and he doesn't believe that there's any kind of free trial.

Seems to work quite well, though, even when we instant message each other.

I also have a gimp friend who says dragon is the only one he has ever liked. He still prefers pecking at the keyboard two fingers at a time. I think he can type as fast as my dad could, but that is not saying much.
