D&D 5E Spell & Crossbones

Fenris
OOC: Hahaha, let's see, that gives Gvido disadvantage.

Make a DC 13 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) or Dexterity (Deception) check to keep your minor conjuration discrete...or you could have an angry Latvian pirate on your hands!

Gvido Berzins - Constitution (arm wrestling proficiency), disadvantage 1d20+3=8

Unfortunately, not enough to throw the match.

Also, I think technically we're breaking the rules a bit, since the object is only allowed to be created in an unoccupied space on the ground, or in your hand. I think mainly this is to avoid "anvil to the head" type hijinx. So, the way I'm interpreting it is the oxen statue falls right between his legs, uncomfortably close to his genitals, but no actual striking the jewels.

Gvido grunts in surprise at the sudden appearance of the oxen statue between his legs and the cool press of iron against his precious Latvian jewels. He falters for a second in which Hugo lets fly the last winged barb, but already Gvido is turning the tables and an inevitable press of the brute's strength and his unexpected cleverness bring Hugo's hand down further and further... Until Hugo's aching hand slams against the table with a loud sound. A loud cheer goes up among the Latvian mercenaries, and a defeated sigh goes thru the watching dwarves. It was a close match.

Gvido takes a deep breath, eyeing Hugo with a gloating expression. He picks up the oxen statue and puts it on the table, looking around bewildered to try and see where the hell it came from, as he nurses his sore arm.

OOC: Hugo takes 1 point of bludgeoning damage.

Katerina, standing behind Hugo with her arms crossed, laughs at the shenanigans. She is pretty sure she knows where the statue came from but doesn't mention it.

"So Gvido, was this your way of impressing me? I think you'll have to try a little harder if you and your tough men want to join our crew. I mean, it looked like our doctor could easily beat you so we switched to our cook and you only barely beat him!"
She shook her head, "I just don't know if that will do."

"Indeed," Nia agrees, coming up beside Katerina. "To hunt a legend, we must have a crew dat can become legends. Notting less will do. No ship is greater den de men and women who crew her."

She looks down at Gvido with her eerie silver eyes.

"Do you truly believe you and your men have dat potential?"

Gvido takes a look around the tavern, but cannot pin where the mysterious statue came from. He takes a swig of ale, giving Hugo a hard look. For a moment the other Latvians tense up, wondering if he will accuse Hugo Van Haan of cheating. "Barely beat him?" He snorts indignantly at Katerina's remark, only painful because he knows it's true. Gvido opens his mouth again to reply harshly to Nia, but shuts it as she has gotten him to contemplate his answer. "Well, er, ah... what do you say, brauli?" He calls over his shoulder to the Latvian mercenaries behind him.

There's a moment of shouting in Latvian, and finally the chorus dies down, and one of them - a large fellow with a mop of hair covering his eyes - speaks for the rest of the men in a slow voice, "Fair shares for each of us, and second pick after the officers of any weapons recovered from treasure we find or ships we take. Oh, and permission to wrestle aboard the ship."

Gvido sighs, realizing his men have spoken for him. Feigning indifference, he casts a mischievous glance at Hugo, "Well, I suppose I'd better join on just to teach this rascal a thing or two about proper insult arm wrestling... Aye, the nine of us will join with your crew, Lady Captain, if you accept our terms."

Hugo decided it had been wise to offer his left arm. He wouldn't have the use of it for at least a day.

With his functioning hand, he reached across the table for Gvido's. He spoke over his shoulder to Katerina, but kept his eyes locked with Gvido. "Don't be too hard on him, Kat. I would sooner have them on our ship than any ship opposed," he said. "I get the impression that these men will be on the side of the victors, regardless of boat."

"It seems as if my comrades believe you can fulfill some potential on our crew..." Kat taps her lips like she is thinking for a long moment. "I suppose I can agree to those terms, they are fair. Though we may ask you to prove your worth in arms first. But not tonight. Enjoy yourselves tonight and tomorrow we will meet again when you aren't three sheets to the wind. Agreed?" She spits into her palm then extends her hand to the brute.

Gvido spits on his palm and shakes Katerina's hand. "Agreed. Any time you wish to know my worth in arms, you'll find me and my men hereabouts." He gives Katerina and Gvido both a sly grin.

OOC: Is Teague still with us? Also what about the doctor? If so I will edit them into this post. If anyone isn't joining outside let me know and I'll edit you out ;)

Katerina nods at Gvido before moving away with Nia and Hugo in tow, meeting up with Ol Zef.

She keeps her voice low. "So, Nia Steeleyes, let's talk about our business." Her eyes dart around the loud, crowded tavern. "OUTSIDE."

The little crew makes their way outside to a more private location. "Firstly good job in there Hugo," she says, patting the dwarf on his large shoulder. "I wasn't sure which way it would go, your insults are quite... insulting," she chuckles. "But certainly his bicep is as large as your head. Remind me not to be on the other end of them in the future! It worked out for the best though, we got to see Gvido's temperament. I think those brutes will nicely round out the crew. Speaking of, I have a few more leads on that from the Seahorse," she waves a hand towards it.

"But perhaps it would be wise to get a ship first, so we know what we're looking at needing. Or might we be needing to make a hasty getaway?" That question is directed at Nia.
