Spell focus + clerics

For instance, an order to "Strip!" can be construed to mean one article of clothing or jewelry, target's choice. Not optimal.

Hmm -- I dunno. They might get to start with an earring, but "strip" doesn't mean to take one thing off. It means to get nekkid.

A modicum of interpretation is okay, I think, but this ain't an opportunity to be rules-lawyery about it. I think I'd give someone about 2 seconds to think about and describe what they want to do in response to the command word. If they describe something clever that fulfills the letter, but not the intent, of the command, booyah for them (commanded to "Jump!" while near the edge of a cliff, they jump up and down). If they describe something that is too much of a twist to the rules (commanded to "Strip!", they take off one earring and leave it at that), then they feel the magical compulsion to do what the cleric wants them to do.

Yes, but you can't specify how quickly you want them to 'Strip'. They could start stripping, very slowly, and take six seconds to remove an earring. Then, the spell ends and everything is back to normal.

3) The verb must be a real English word: "Matate," a Spanish word that means "Kill yourself," isn't a valid command. (I think that's the word -- it's been a long time since I've studied Spanish).

Your spanish is correct. That's a nice thing about the spanish verbs, you can make make them reflexive and give them a direct object as part of the verb. Very handy with this spell so that's a good rule to adopt. : )
