Spelljammer d20

Hello all,
I have recieved the d20 spelljammer/Dungeon mag today, and I must say that I like it. I look forward to what the very creative spelljammer comunity will do with it.
I rather like the fact that Helms renew the atmosphere, and that they dont drain a mage pilot of his or her spells. I was rather dissapointed to see the Neogi's ships in the hands of the Drow (though I like the look of the spiderships, very shadow-ship like and creepy) though from a marketing standpoint I do understand. The Drow appeal to so many D&D fans, as enemies and as PC's, while the neogi are generally only monsters.
I havent obsorbed the whole article yet, but have they ignored the "hitpoints per 10ft square" bit from the Dragon article on vehicles? It looks like it, I liked that feature, as it made a ship a heckuva lot tougher that a critter of the same size (ie its alot eaier to kill the crew than to wreck the ship).
What do you folks think???

I can't wait to take a look at this...I loved the basic
Spelljammer stuff back in 2E, and I hope to conclude my
fizzled campaign with this reimagining...

And I loved the neogi...guess it's time to get out the ol'
Conversion Manual... :)

All in All I enjoyed it. I do not like the way Hull Points are treated just like damaging an object. That means someone with a 18 strength and +1 longsword (base +5dmg) can actually damage and destroy a ship eventually. I am thinking as a house rule to make them suffer half damage from non-siege melee attacks just like they do from range weapons. Also, hardness does not protect from magical missiles, so a barrage of these from a high-level caster can also destroy a ship.

I LIKE a fighter being able to (eventualy) destroy the ship. Seems realistic to me.

As for the latter... no, magic missle cannot damage inanimate objects.

About the thing about Drow getting Neogi ships...

Just think back to Star Trek where the Klingons and the Romulans made a deal, and the Romulans got Klingon ships. Now apply that same case to the Neogi and Drow.

Drow and Neogi sittin ina tree K-I-S-S-I-N EWWWWW!

In the old 2e setup, the drow HATED the Neogi, because of the Neogis spider-like bodies being an insult to Lolth yadda yadda. But I think it would be more likely that they would/could have a slave trade agreement. Neogi could supply slaves, transport, and reconnisance on (non-Spelljamming) surface elf encampments, etc while the Drow build the Helms for the Neogi.
I always liked the Neogi, they were utterly lacking in good graces at all. Though I think that the way they were depicted was perhaps a bit too viciouse.
There was a Planescape race called the Tso, who were close relatives of the Neogi (even had spider-ships), the big difference was that a group of clutch mates (Tso who are born from the same Great Old Master who live long enough to achieve sentience) were utterly inseperable and loyal to one another. The Tso were the ultimate slippery merchants, who would adhere to the LETTER of a contract, regardless of what it entails.
I would like to see a more functional Neogi, who could act a bit more like the Tso. Perhaps being a potential PC race?

AHHHHH! I stand corrected! I read the Magic Missile description and it indeed did say that magic missile does not affect inanimate objects. Weird though that the spell will affect constructs however.

So does anyone else think it is ok for melee weapons to do full damage (- Hardness of course) against Hull Points in the new D20 system?

I do. Well, provisonaly that is... I've not seen that issue yet (Always get mine late), but as long as the ships have sufficient hull points (and not like 30 or something), I don't have a problem. I can see taking an axe to a wooden ship and destroying it, given enough time.
