Some companies sculpt the models at twice the size of the final and then use lasers to scan the original model into a computer and then they scale down the model. The PC then tells the machines what size to make the new mold.

Reaper, as far as I know, simply sculpts them at the same size that you buy them at. Amazing.
I like Reaper minis a lot and they make up about 95% of my collection. I'd like to get some Confrontation minis, but paying that much for a mini that I can't check for flaws until it's been shipped to me... I don't know.

I'm a big fan of Reaper Minis myself though I have to admit there's one thing that is starting to annoy me. Almost all of their human minis have a cloth attached to their front belt that covers the crotch almost to their knees.
