Splatbooks to Beware of?

I forgot about Complete Divine. It has Divine Metamagic in it. Divine Metamagic fails the "Incantatrix Litmus Test." The Incantatrix Litmus Test states that anything more powerful than an incantatrix in its own area of expertise is overpowered by virtue of being more powerful than one of the most overpowered PrCs ever. Divine Metamagic, a single feat, is better than the Incantatrix's Instant Metamagic level 8 ability...
There's a Bard feat that lets them do the same thing with uses of Bardic Music. Any qualms about that one?

Divine metamagic, even Quicken, isn't that big a deal in my opinion. It's a strong choice, but it sucks up a lot of resources. Not just the feats, but the charisma to get the turning attempts.

What is definitely broken is combining any divine metamagic feat with that item from Liber Mortis that gives extra turning attempts. Light stick, I think? All of a sudden, you don't need extra turning at all. You don't even need charisma. Just haul around a dozen light sticks and you've got something like 50 turn attempts a day.

Swift action, all attacks in a round are incorporeal touch attacks?

By 'Twinkable' I understood it to mean it could be enhanced in some ways beyond the actual spell description. Isn't that what twinkable means?

I think, in this case, it means "Better than you expect it to be and, by extension, easily exploitable."

Well, once per day, the Fatespinner can up one save DC by 15 points. That's as close as an automatic failure as it gets (95% failure chance pretty much guaranteed).

Say bye, bye to every BBEG, that is not immune to spells.

Doesn't the -10 once per day only apply to creatures w/equal or less hd than the caster though? So that would disqualify a lot of creatures like dragons or Undead which have HD greater than CR. Of the complete arcane, the class we (my group) liked least was the green star adept. Unless you make retrieving starmetal a major part of the campaign, the abilities this class grants are incredibly powerful, especially for casters who ususally have weak fort saves. I think the initiate of the 7 veils, while not overtly too powerful, is definitely on the edge of it. Full caster progression plus the ability to throw up pseudo prismatic walls as a swift action, and uber bonuses against abjuration spells, as well as making her abjurations harder to dispel make this a sweet class.

Immediate action, I thought.

Thank you all very much for the replies. This is the sort of topic that usually spurs up heated debate, but it's a *good* thing to have debate over, IMHO. I'll definitely be looking into what everybody posted. (fortunately/unfortunately, my PCs have no interest in being a cleric.)

Really? It has 6 prerequisite feats and only gives one Quicken per day ;) Divine Metamagic does the same thing at 1st-level for a human cleric who spends two feats and has at least 14 Charisma. And Divine Metamagic is more versatile.

Sigh. That's what I get for posting at 5 am. Despite the fact that I have discussed them myself, within my own group and on these boards, my mind totally blanked on the insane prereqs for Sudden Quicken. Ignore this particular comment. :heh:

However, that said, I strongly believe that the prereqs for Sudden Quicken are excessive. Quickening a spell is a potent ability, but the ability to do it once (or twice) per game simply isn't a game-breaker, IMO.

Persistent Spell is generally balanced. I still don't think that Divine Metamagic is though (though YMMV). Just wondering, do you allow the Incantatrix PrC then? I haven't many people who do for a while.

It's never come up. Off the top of my head, I don't even recall which book it's from.
