"Spooks" in the UK

I've never watched [ spooks ] before, but on a whim I recorded the two parter that is opening the current series, and it is the most gripping and vaguely disturbing thing that I've seen on television in years (if not ever!) Without giving away too much it is about a plot to overthrow the government of the UK... and who is behind it?

A couple of times I actually jumped off my seat while watching it (not because of shock but because it was so tense).

I believe it gets shown in the US as MI-5, and hacked down to 45 minutes. If you can get the chance to see the full thing, please do so.

from the trailers ive seen for more of the series all looks very glum and bleak

Yeah, because Spooks is a cheesy title.

45 minutes? That's a lot of commercial timeslots.

I did watch it from the beginning, but I don't watch it any more. Somewhere along the way I just lost interest, partly because virtually all of the original cast have gone. I'd probably still enjoy it, and I considered getting back into it with this new series, but unfortunately it clashes with something (CSI:Miami, perhaps?).
