SPYCRAFT: Blood Money (The African Dream)

Tokiwong

First Post
Kim decides to grab a cab, and ends up with a dour native who does not seem to want to talk. The ride is pleasant if a bit nerve wracking, it is obvious that driving tests are not that strict. Kim finally arrives at The African Dream, shaken but not stirred... he hands the cabbie the requested amount and sends him on his way... he looks to the exterior of the African Dream and breathes in deep...

"The rabbit decides to enter the Tiger's den..."

He shakes his head and enters the establishment, for now just portraying the role of an out of towner...

I must spend some time brushing up on my journals and recover abit from the travel and the implant. However if you need me to get some information, give me a holler on the radio and I can look up what I can.

Luddite spends the evening with his books and journals, and occasional going on line and or writing some small bio-statistics programs to have handy

OOC: Luddite, you should have posted this in answer to Tokiwong's offer to go to the club in the previous thread. This scene takes place about half an hour later.

This one assumes that everyone participating is either headed toward the African Dream or in communication with those who are. Please edit your post and transfer this comment over at the gearing up phase.

I've posted information in the Charter as well as some comments in the gearing up phase about these forms of branching threads.

Kareem eagerly accepts the offer to go to a nightclub, and hops in the cab with Kim. During the ride, he absorbs the local scenery, taking in all with wide eyes, and peppers the driver with all sorts of questions about happenings in Zimbawe [Gather Information +1] He also tells longwinded, fictitious stories of his own days in New York as cab driver.

"Okay, so then this guy rear ends me on this deserted street, crushing the back end of my cab. I stop the car and get out; I'm REALLY upset. I start yelling at him, calling him a moron. This old guy with a cane gets out. I stop yelling, feelin' kind of bad for yelling at a cripple, yah? Okay, and then he's like 'Why you stop being angry? Ashamed?' Then, he pulls out a .44 Magnum and fires some shots at me. I make this great diving roll under my car and start using it for cover. He keeps firing, and the bullets are going through the car. One almost took my ear off! That HAD to stop. So then I wrench off my hubcap in turn, and fling it at the guy like a discus! It nails him right in the wrist, disarming him. I jump and roll over the top of my car, when suddenly the guy pulls a sword out of his cane and pulls his white beard and hair off! A mask! He stabs at me, and I use the hubcap as a shield. I then twist, disarm the sword, and the punk runs away. I try to catch him, but the .44 bullets took out my engine. Then, his car blows up for no reason. I was nearly killed! Anyway, that reminds me of this time when I was racing this BMW in my taxicab in the ROcky Mountains, on Mt. Mckinely, which is the highest mountain in the US, and...

Alexander Roman

First Post
After a hair-raising trip through the crowded streets in a speeding cab, Alexander arrives at the club with the rest of his group. He giggles with glee and slaps the driver on the shoulder.

-That's the best ride I've had in a while!

Then give him a tip on top of Tokiwong's tip.

He then separates himself from the group so that he can watch the crowds inside and out of the club to see if anyone suspicious is watching the group (Spot 4, Surveillance 6).

Kim gives a look that seems to doubt Kareem's credidibility but he smiles regardless...

"I don't think I will be taking a cab ride in new York any time soon... nothing against you of course. Just seems safer to be on a speeding bullet train then in the backseat of one of your cabs... Course I hope that every bit of that is true if the time comes for an amazing escape..."

Meanwhile, in the other cab...

Ghostfox hails another cab and haggles for a good cab rate to the African Dream. While conversing with the cab driver, she gives the boys a head start and starts counting to a hundred. At twelve, she hops in and tells the driver to follow the team's lead cab but not too closely. She makes sure she keeps a good distance without losing sight of the other vehicle. Cursing herself for not listening to her handlers are taking that Surveillance crash course, Ghostfox just keeps her eyes peeled for any signs of other parties tailing the lead vehicle.

Kim walks in and tries to gauge the company present in The African Dream. he wears a cheery smile and looks ready to do some conversing, some carousing, and well have a good time, all in the name of justice.

He saunters in and takes a seat and spots a female waitress and smiles; then waves her over and orders a scotch on the rocks

"Scotch on the rocks, shaken not stirred... unless there is a house specialty you reccomend..."

Kim smiles and pours on the charm... his face showing an almost genuine interest in the female waitress.

OOC: Scanning the room with Spot +7 for any suspicious characters, and then Bluff +10 (+11 for females) to seduce the waitress and get into her good graces... and then a Gather Information check +8 to see if he can learn anything useful about the usual characters that come to The African Dream

The African Dream is surrealist. Despite the name, it is obviously designed to make the rich patronage forget that they are even in Africa. It looks like a mix between a huge Victorian manor and a new age dandy hangout.

It is a very busy club with a long line up. Roughly a hundred persons are waiting outside for their chance to get in. The bouncers look like they mean business.

Almost everyone is either of European of Asian descent (Yep, there are about as many Asians as Europeans in Zimbabwe; 1% of the population each). It is clearly designed as a refuge for the rich from the rest of Zimbabwe.

The Bouncer aren’t checking for weapons but are screening new arrivals based on their look.

Inside the club you realize that the 60s and the 70s are the key concept. Nostalgia has a place of honor as you see memorabilia from the era when Zimbabwe was still called Rhodesia. You’ve barely been here for 10 minutes when the old mechanical clock in the salon start ringing, Big Ben style. Almost everyone stops what he’s doing, tips his glass toward the clock and shout: ‘’This one is for Ian Smith!’’ and then drink it down.

At a glance there seem to be a certain number of professional escort in the room, mostly wearing red. They frequently head upstairs with various gentlemen. There also seem to be some activities in the backrooms, possibly gambling by the face of the people who comes out of there. Finally, the bar itself is quite large and seem to have every classy drinks on tap while the snooker table are numerous and well maintained.

You’ll have to ask around for the CIA agent since you have no photograph.

[ OOC : everyone has +1 to charisma or better. Slip them a 20 and they’ll let you cut in front of the crowd ]
