[Spycraft/S9] A Simple Heist

Raven gives his colleague a thumbs up then unshoulders his backpack again so he can work his magic on the security system.

"Let's take that creepy mask, easy to carry, and we can just leave it down here somewhere if we take the same route out," he says quietly.

Raven will take a good long look at the wiring of the security system which he can access in this room. He'll try to cause as much damage as possible, taking particular care to harm the camera system if he can access vital wiring in this room. Before he starts breaking things however he'll try to cause alarms to go off in the Nothern Complex and the HVAC system (if there are alarms for that) if he can do this through adjusting the wiring.

[ooc: taking 20 on electronics check, electronics +8, will spend an AP if needed]

Gheist nods in agreement with the plan, "Make sure you cut the system from the outside reaction force before you make it go haywire." He then turns to the lockers, figuring one of them to be the most likely location of the video recorders. While Raven bollixes the security system, Gheist checks for cables running into them from the security console. If neither or both of them have such cables, he will start with the one closer to the consoles; otherwise he will start with the one with the cables. (ooc: If a take 10 won't get him into the locker, he will then take 20.) If he does manage to find the video recorders he will start removing the tape cartridges, and start feeding the tape, pulled from the cartridges, into the shredder that's bound to be in here.

There are no security devices within the HVAC shafts. The closest thing would be smoke and carbon monoxide detectors mounted near the vents. Setting these off will summon the fire department.

Activating the alarms is a no brainer with Raven at the security center controls, but a quick survey of the set-up gives him some pause. The grease monkey will need some luck to wade through the complexity of the set-up and avoid setting off any anti-tampering measures.

((Festy_Dog: One thing to note, Raven won't be able to take 20 to sabotage the security systems since there are penalties for failure. I will make a d20 roll behind the GC screen, add any skill ranks, ability and other modifiers vs a DC of 25. But since you're at the heart of the security centre the difficulty is lowerd to DC 20

If you fail by 5 or more then bad things(tm) will happen. The security system might detect signs of tampering and raise an alarm. Or you think you may have sabotaged the systems but they continue to work normally.

Does Raven wish to proceed with the hidden rolls? What will you do first? Sever the security console's connections to any external response force? Or mess around with the cameras? These will require separate rolls. How many Action Dice will you be willing to spend on each?

Another thing to note, if you take 20 on a skill check you cannot spend AD to increase the result.))

There is a shredder in the room.

Gheist follows the trail of tangled cables from the security console to the locker on the east side of the southern wall.

But before the two agents can begin their work, they are once again interrupted by things that go bump in the night. The noises from the HVAC shaft have stopped but are replaced by a pair of dull thuds coming from the barracks/lounge. The noises sound like a heavy objects dropping onto a carpeted surface.

The door to the barracks/lounge is shut.

((On the map above, the barracks/lounge is the larger room connected to the command centre.

Gheist's Listen Check : 25=20+4:Ranks+1:Wis/ Threat.
Raven's Listen check: 14=13+2:Ranks+1:Wis

Section 9 Control rolls some dice behind the screen, checks the results and sighs.

Gheist can take 20 to spoof the keypad:Electronic Combination Lock: Open Lock DC 20 top bypass. Electronics DC 20 to disable.

There is also a cheap mechanical lock on the locker which won't be a problem for Gheist to crack by taking 10 on an Open Locks check.))

Gheist raises a finger to his lips and quietly slips over to the door, his dart gun once more in hand. If possible he will conceal himself so as to get the drop on anyone emerging from the barracks.

Raven nods to Gheist, and before he starts work on the security system he draws his P229 and stands pressed against the wall by the door into the lounge. If the door opens into the command room he'll stand on the hinge side of the doorway, thus concealing him when the door opens.

[ooc: I'm willing to spend one AD on each check]

As Gheist crouches behind one of the office desks in the middle of the room, he notices that the dart gun needs to be reloaded. Raven is pressed against the wall of the door to the bathroom.

You can hear the soft padding of at least two people approaching from behind the door. A few moments later, the gooseneck of a fiber optic probe emerges from the bottom of the door. The bulb-like lens at the end of the probe pans the room and immediately retreats as soon it sees the paralyzed guard and the pool of blood streaming from the dog's corpse.

((Initiative Rolls:
Gheist: 22
=17+1:Fixer3+1:MartialArtist1+3:Dex
Raven: 25=16+1:Wheelman 2+1:Fixer 2+3:Dex+4:Feat(Improved Initiative)

Intruders: 10=5+5))

Gheist stays behind the desk as the probe withdraws, holstering his dart gun (half-action), and, drawing his SOCOM (free-action: quickdraw), he will brace on the desk (half-action). Then he will pop up, using the desk for maximum cover, and shoot (half-action) the most threatening hostile, making sure to activate the laser dot(free-action: quickdraw).

(ooc: If needed, I will spend an AD to activate any crit.)

Raven quietly takes a step back then aims parallel to the wall and activates his laser sight, once the door opens he waits for Gheist to fire before he does. Raven will fire at the open door in the hopes of hitting anyone on the other side.

[ooc: Will use AD if Raven crits or enemy crit fails.]

((Round 1))
As the Section 9 agents take a moment to take their positions and prepare their weapons, the intruders are also doing the same. The closest one to the door, Raven is in place to hear some indistinct muttering from behind the door.

((Raven's Listen check vs DC 15: 10=7+2:Ranks+1:Wis. Not quite high enough. You need at least a 15 to make out what the intruders are saying.

((Round 2. Raven takes a ready action (full) to wait until Gheist fires then make a standard attack at an intruder behind the open door. Gheist takes a ready action (full) to wait until an intruder enters the room through the door then make a standard attack.))

The barracks door bursts open and a man in black storms the security centre.

Gheist welcomes the first hostile through the door with a 0.45 ACP greeting card from his silenced H&K SOCOM, but the intruder merely takes a scratch to his left arm. Raven quickly follows up with a shot from his P-229. The intruder growls and curses as Raven's shot tears up his left arm.

Armed with an H&K UMP-40A2 and wearing a tight-fitting infiltration outfit, black hood and boots, hostile takes a split-second to asses the threats. With Gheist taking cover behind the office desk, the intruder groggily swings the barrel of his gun in Raven's direction. Raven barely notices the cinematic thwip-thwip-twhip of the silenced burst when the bullets find their mark. Raven is hit! The UMP is notorious for it's ability to takedown targets. The question is - is Raven lucky enough or tough enough to shrug off this attack?

The second intruder isn't coming through the door. The second man in black kneels, bracing weapon against the doorway, and taking careful aim at Gheist.

((Gheist's Attack Roll vs DEF 15: 21=11+3:BAB+3:Dex+2:Bracing+2:Gear(LaserSight). Damage d12: 3))
Raven's Attack Roll vs DEF 15: 20= 12+3:BAB+3:Dex+2:Circumstance(Laser Sight).
Damage 1d8+2: 7=5+2))
The minion has run out of VP but he made a successful Fort save vs DC 10. Intruder A is fatigued but stunned.

Intruder A's Attack Roll vs DEF 16: 17=16+3-1:Accuracy+1:WideBurst-2:Fatigued.
Damage 1d8+2: 9=7+2.
One of the wonderful things about the UMP-40A2 is it's TAKEDOWN quality. Raven must make a successful FORT save or be knocked prone.
Raven's Fort Save vs DC19: 15=11+2:Fixer+2:DeptBonus. Would you want to spend some action dice?))

Gheist quickly ducks back down behind the desk and readies his weapon again (ooc: due to WL quality). He then leans out to the side, attempting to shoot at the first tango without being exposed to the second.
