[SS] Roll With It (was: (Very) Thick Skinned)

First: When did Dwarf get classified as Monsterous? I dont think he'd qualify in the first place. Now if your DM allows it cool concept.

Don't they have to select feats before they can get a familar though? The feats have to be selected as the level is gained, so I don't see how this could happen.

There is no order of level benefits.

There is no order of level benefits.

Its not a Monsterous feat, but a General Feat.

There's an order, but there's also an out: somewhere around 145 or 144 there's a statement that abilities with prerequisites that are met with stats from this level are able to be taken at this level. There was even an example about taking a rank in ride and mounted combat (I think that was the example). So really, the order is fairly arbitrary.

But anyway, who wants to waste two feats to get a wizard/sorcerer damage reduction 2/-? If it comes into play, 2 less damage isn't going to save you, but 2 magic related feats might.

Now that I've made it home... you are correct. I have no idea why that one isn't a Monsterous Feat but oh well.

I still don't think the order listed on 145 is a RULE. I think its a reminder of all the stuff you need to do when you level.

Would be kind of a neat trick assigning your skill points before you choose your class, wouldn't it?

Five levels of Survivor would be superior to 10 levels of Dwarven Defender, eally. DR 5/- for the Survivor, or 6/- for the defender ... in half as many levels.

Or, go Fighter(8)/Survivor(5)/DwarvenDefender(7). With Feats like:

Fighter 1 ... Dodge
Character 1 ... Toughness
Fighter 2 ... Endurance
Character 3 ... Roll With It
Fighter 4 (whatever)
Character 6 ... Roll With It
Fighter 6 (whatever)
Fighter 8 (whatever)
Character 9 ... Roll With It
Character 12 ... Roll With It
Character 15 ... Roll With It
Character 18 ... Roll With It

So in other words, he'd have 3 feats to spend on tactics (above and beyond what a DD needs), have DR of 20/- ... (+3/defender, +5/survivor, +12/feats). That'd cover Focus, Specialisation, and some special-trick-ability feat or other.

Drop the 7th Dwarven Defender level and pick up the Feral Template, and you have a Feral Dwarf with DR 20/- ... and Fast Healing (2) ... heh!

Makes me think of the Comic Villian, Juggernaut. Damage just bounces off, but take off his magic helm and any enchantment cast his way lays him out.

Found the rule I was looking for (no where near 145... my bad). At the beginning of the feats section it says (paraphrasing since I don't have my book here) if you gain the prerequisite for a feat when you level, you may take the feat that level.

As for Survivor, it's cool, but there's a big loss here - no BAB. Going from 20 down to 15 BAB is a huge loss. I don't think that justifies the +2 DR or evasion abilities.

And yes, I realize he's suscepitble to enchantments, but at the same time, Dwarven Defender does get a good Will save progression, and it's not too hard to add a level of paladin. I think a Dwarf paladin 2/fighter 8/DD 10 is quite the cool character. With an additional +3-6 on every save, you should be doing quite well. Of course you do lose a fighter feat for that, but it may be worth it.
