That's a pretty fast turnaround for a show not worth continuing. I wonder if they're rushing it to use the recent tries to save the show.

Are you kidding? The 4th season alone proved that it could be done.

But yeah, probably.

Sorry I should have posted the "not worth continuing" in quotes. I think it's weird that Paramount is rushing this out even though they said it wasn't worth keeping the show in production.

From a marketing standpoint it's smart. Paramount saw how much feedback they got from fans, so before they lose them to other things, they are striking while the proverbial "iron" is still hot. This also gives them a gauge for two things. They can see how it fares in dvd sales and depending how it does, see where they stand with a stand alone movie using either this cast or past casts. It also gives them a chance at looking to develop a new show down the line for the 06-07 seasons. It's actually a smart thing to do overall. Unlike in past years where they had another show running to occupy their fans, they now have to keep their fansbase content until they come up with something solid to excite the fans.

I wonder if they're also doing it to truly have a dead period where there are no new Trek movies/tv shows/dvds. That way, when they do release something, it will, probably, be welcomed as the "second coming" of Star Trek.

Or a "second wind."

Or third, if you count the lull from TOS to TMP, where it came back through syndication.

Simple, fans want the DVD's, especially Season 4: The Manny Coto Show. However, they cannot skip to S4 without seriously upsetting B&B (by acknowledging it was more loved by fans than their own seasons), so they've got to release the interim series they know aren't going to be bought quite as well. Also, the corporate arm responsible for DVD's is completely different from the arm responsible for UPN, so one side sees a show that isn't an urban sitcom or reality show so it's worthless, while the other sees a fortune waiting in their DVD sales.

One thing the networks and studios have learned from DVDs is that fans are very willing to buy entire TV shows on disc, if they liked the show in the first place. IIRC, the huge deal Dave Chapelle signed for future seasons of his show was based on projected DVD income after the runaway success of his first season DVD set.

Heck, I don't own any Star Trek on DVD (Just Dilbert, MASH seasons 1-3, and all of Babylon 5), and I'm seriously tempted to pick up Enterprise S4.

I gotta have the Season 4 DVD set for Christmas. The only drawback is the series finale. Any chance they can make an alternate version of that episode, and cut out the TNG "Pegasus" crap?

Meh. Seasons 1-3 are all the lowest points (though S3 have Manny Coto's influence so it's not all that bad, just the "Delphic Expanse" story arc), beginning with the "Broken Bow" episode. If there is anything good about them, it would be the Andorian-featured episodes.
