Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

We’ve started going back and watching the rest of Season 5. So we’ve just watched The Ship and Nor the Battle to the Strong. Man, the writers loved doing grim war episodes, didn’t they? Poor Muniz. Poor Jake, who at least gets some character time in the latter episode, even if it’s basically a redo of The Red Badge of Courage. I guess it certainly hardens his resolve to not enter Starfleet. The two episodes also serve to foreshadow just how awful the Dominion War is going to be.

I had to remind myself that those two grim episodes were sandwiching Looking for Par’Mach in All the Wrong Places, which is brilliant and lighthearted.

I got tired of DS9 a few months ago, but I was recently considering getting back into it only to find that all Star Trek has gone from Netflix. I guess Paramount wants it all on its own streaming service. Sadly, Paramount+ isn't available in NZ, so I guess I won't get to finish watching DS9. :(

I guess it depends on where you got tired of DS9.. if you got tired in the first season then I'd say "oh dang, it really picks up in s2 and s3." But if you were in season 3 or 4 and were tired of it? DS9 might just not be for you. The first couple seasons have some bad episodes, but they're still overall decent. Some of them are really, really good. Later on... oh man, it gets so friggin good. DS9 ended up being my favorite Trek, but only because TOS and TNG paved the way for it.

I was in the middle of "Broken Link", the S4 finale, which was a season or two further than I'd made it the first time back in the 90s.

It wasn't that I didn't like the show. I'd just been bingeing it for a while by then and needed a break. I was just thinking about getting back to it when my friend pointed out that all the Treks are gone from Netflix. :(
