Star Trek: RPG

Hello. I just recently started watching Star Trek: Enterprise and am really enjoying it. Especially moments where T'Pol is on screen :)

Anyone know of any recent Star-Trek RPG's? I've been looking around and the only one I noticed was the 1980's game by FASA. I was hoping for something that was based less on the original series...more just on the universe in general.

While both the Decipher and LUG Trek games are out of print, they're usually pretty easy to find on ebay or the like.

If you're looking for a Trek game based on the universe in general, I'd highly recommend the Decipher version. The Player's Guide and the Narrator's Guide are likely the only two books you'll need. With them you could run a Trek game in pretty much any Trek series or era.

The LUG books were focused on specific series (there as a core book for each TOS, TNG, and DS9), so you'd sort of need them all if you wanted an overall view of the setting, or you could get a specific one to focus on one particular era.

Both versions of the game were largely written and developed by the same people, though the Decipher game is the more recent and (IMO) the superior of the two as far as gameplay.

Superior, maybe. Too bad Decipher shafted their RPG Studio that so many of the former LUG employees just left.

Never did get around to picking up Coda-Trek. Still too much a fan of LUGTrek.

Game Long and Prosper

I've probably run more Star Trek Campaigns then any other type of RPG game in the 30+ years I've been gaming and without a doubt my favorite incarnation is the Last Unicorn Games version. The ICON System and the way it was delivered in the various game book really capture the feel of the universe and its particular brand of science fiction adventure. My recommendation is to purchase the book whose series represents the feel you want or the tech level you're looking for. While I own them all, I use my TNG book to run pretty much everything from TNG forward in the timeline and my TOS book for Pre-TOS through the first 6 films (my favorite era btw).

Now of course I could be a bit bias...I was a playtester and one of the writers on the Andorians book.

One of the fascinating thing that I discovered running ST RPG sessions was the willingness of many players to accept the technobabble and solutions seen in the TV shows, even those not incredibly familiar with the series. This didn't happen for every player, but most interested in playing, even those who were not huge ST fans, really enjoyed immersing themselves in ST-like challenges and solutions.

(In one campaign, we did have one nod to another series. In every episode, Weseley Crusher got killed. Usually we did that early in the session so that we could get on to the serious gaming.)

Along the same lines as the OPs question:

Does anyone know of any game that attempts to have a Star Trek feel (quasi-millitary starship exploration based game) but isn't actually a licenced Star Trek product? Something Star Trek-like?
