This is what most of the failed Star trek stuff lost. the Optimism and eventual happy endings in a universe where morals and ethics trump fear. It's the same thing that made Orville worth watching as well.

It also looks like they successfully rescue Batel.


I know trailers can be deceptive, and I think this one is being tricksy as it seems like Pike is passing on the captaincy to young Kirk, but a) it's too soon and b) S4 is currently being filmed with Anson Mount still starring as Pike, so ... I don't know what that's all about. Maybe he only temporarily gives Kirk control of the Enterprise. Or maybe it's not the Enterprise but some other ship.


Also, Patton Oswalt just shows up everywhere, doesn't he?

First two episodes are up! I haven't watched them myself, but my sister has. She says there's a bit of tonal whiplash between the two, with the first being "we're all gonna die!" and the second being a "weird fantasy comedy" thing. She says the latter involves Trelane, an "annoying Q-like" character who originally appeared in TOS.
