Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Kaminoan Incident

The Clone Wars have barely begun, and many Jedi have already lost their lives to the galactic conflict. Many other Jedi continue to lead clone troops into battle against the droid armies of the Separatists. Recently, disturbing rumors have reached the Jedi Council of the theft of republic cloning technology by the Separatists. They seek to duplicate and improve upon the techniques of the kaminoans. To that end, kaminoan geneticists have been kidnapped along with their technology and secreted in a hidden base and forced to create for the Separatists their own clone army. The Jedi Council cannot allow that to happen, Jedi must be sent to investigate, but there are so few now and none to be spared. Six newly knighted padawans fresh from their success in the trials have been chosen to investigate these rumors and discover the location of the hidden base where the kidnapped scientists are being forced to work.

“Disturbing, this is.” Speaks the aged Jedi Master, Yoda.
“Indeed.” Agrees Jedi Master Mace Windu.

The two Jedi Masters were discussing the latest events of the Clone War in Yoda’s quarters when the report that concerned them both came in.

“If the Separatists have truly gotten their hands on cloning technology they may learn how to exploit ours or even create one for themselves.”

“Spread thin we are, No Jedi spare can we to investigate.”

“We must find out for sure, we cannot ignore this. What about the survivors of Fondor. They are Jedi Knights now and have proven themselves resourceful.”

“Mumm, Perhaps. Keeping them together, dangerous that may be. Already, a strong bond, have they formed . Better for all to separate them, we should.”

“We have little choice.”

“Sigh, very well, assign them, we will, to investigate these rumors.”

Meanwhile…

Six young Jedi Knights spar in one of the Jedi Temple's many gymnasiums. A keen observer would sense the obvious bond of friendship these six share, as it is very evident by their joking playfulness amidst the flashing blue and green lightsabers.

A deadly deep emerald glow highlighted the delicate features of the woman wielding the blade. Her dark eyes seem to dance as she moved slowly, each movement carefully done without thinking...the result of years upon years of perfecting the kata...her very own kata.

Another hiss and a sapphire blade joined the first.

Everything about her spoke of hidden strength twisting within the graceful curves of her athletic body shorn of the traditional Jedi robes for something more practical during practice. The blades moved as if they were part of her, dipping and spiraling in intricate forms. Few Jedi mastered well the art of wielding one lightsaber, much less two...but this woman's determination to do so could be seen in her perfectly executed kata.

Other than repulsor jumping off the tallest building on Coruscant, anything involving the use of her belovedly crafted sabers ranked high on her list of what she'd rather be doing.

Rei Miyazawa ran along the floor of the gym, tumbling and leaping with breathtaking grace even as the lightsaber danced so quickly as if to look like one blue-green saber. Her hair, finally allowed to outgrow the padawan braid, spun black and lustrous with the rebellious streak of crimson that framed either side of her face.

Light danced in her eyes and brought a glow to her face for she remained quite happy lost in the moment...frozen in a dance caught by both beauty and death.

Spinning and dodging and attacking, all while showing off his exquisite swordmanship, Kyle is focused on his sparring partner. The joking in the room is exactly what he needs right now. He can practice his sword fighting forms without thinking about them, one moving into the next. But the jokes and sparring keep his mind busy enough that he can keep all thoughts off of the battle of Fondor that went so badly for so many.

He glances around the room and sees his friends, his brothers and sisters in the Force. A smirk on his face gives away the fact that he now reflects on how excited he is to still be with the 5 of them, even though he is sure it will not stay that way for long. No, the Counsel will surely split them up across the galaxy, each of them commanding an army of clone troops to protect the universe.

Kyle is just glad that they were all able to stay together this long and face their first incredible battle together. He also wonders if he will get a chance to see his mother before he is sent off on another mission.

Zak struggled to keep up with the far more skilled jedi currently practicing in the gymnasium. His blocks were sufficient and his attacks without much flair - a straight forward approach to lightsaber combat. Zak had his own philosophy to lightsaber combat - he conserved his resources in hopes finding an intelligent opening in the defense of opponents.

Both racially and personally, Zak wasn't gifted with the most strength or endurance of many jedi. Nor was he masterful when fighting in two dimensions. But, in three dimensions with a starfighter rapped around him, then Zak could show his true colors.

"Enough," he called out in Basic to his opponent, smiling. Clearly, he was outmatched and he was only delaying the inevitable. His fellow jedi - his friends, his brothers and sisters (probably more so that any jedi would consider another jedi) knew him too well and his heart just wasn't in the competition today.

For soon he and his friends would be separating, and most likely he would never see them again. And if he did . . . they wouldn't be the friends they are now.

He leaned against the wall and clicked his lightsaber off, watching the duel between Rei and Kyle. I wonder what they'll be doing in a few weeks, Zak thought.

"Oh, come on, Kyle!" Rei teased with a slight smirk as her emerald lightsaber came around to connect with his. "Are we sparring or playing?"

The sapphire blade swung right afterwards just as the emerald left...but soon that blade found itself digging into Kyle's defense. Battering relentlessly with a speed well-practiced.

Her concentration though did not waver despite her rather overconfident if quite arrogant playful attitude. "You don't need Zak to come help you out, do you?"

His thoughts immediately returning to the present, Kyle's smirk spread into a playful grin.
"I may need Zak's help, Rei...picking you up off the floor." With that boast, Kyle dropped into a low crouch, evading Rei's well coordinated attack and sprung forward in an attempt to knock her feet out from under her.

"Steady, Kyle, don't bring me into your challenges . . . " Zak called out. His voice was deeper, somewhat earthy, and slower than that of his friends. Whether it was consistent for the race or just something from Zak's heritage, Zak's voice was the same as his nature when on his feet - steady, solid, but a little slow.

". . . I'm still sore from when that Wookie jedi tried to call you out," Zak finished.

Rei laughed, dark eyes sparkling with mirth. "Well, how were you supposed to know the wookie would ask for a date in compensation, Zak? I heard she was a great dancer."

Leaping over Kyle's low profile, the young woman tumbled as her lightsabers hissed off. As soon as she regained her feet again, the twin blades came to life and momentum took her back into the battle yet again.

"Maybe if you spent more time with your face out of the holobooks and in the gym, you would have me on the floor right about now, consular."

Kyle recovers from his leap and re-ignites his saber. He slowly walks towards Rei, spinning the blade almost lazily. He throws Zak a quick glance for bringing up the Wookie incident, not that anyone could ever forget it. He then turns his sights back toward Rei. "My dear Rei, if I had you on the ground already, all of this fun would be over. What makes you think I want this time with you to end?" When Kyle speaks his eyes do not move from Rei's, his voice soft and smooth, his smile genuine.
