"Event series" to me sounds like it's a highlights reel of the major events of Lando's life, rather than a story told over multiple episodes.

That doesn’t need explaining, but an encounter post-Mustafar would make sense given the above.

I am sure there's an economic driver to such a huge announcement.
For obvious reasons, Disney has taken a real drubbing this year - so much of their revenue was driven by people going to see movies in theaters, or going to the parks. Setting the expectation that they still have tons of desirable content to offer is intended to mitigate that, I am sure.
Agreed. Luke and Leia are born at the end of Ep III. This is ten years later (so, the kids are 10 years old). Another 10 years can pass before Ep IV, so it can be a decade between encounters.
It is also entirely possible that they don't actually meet - Vader can appear as a driving force in the distance. For example, if he learns that his kids might be alive, or that someone kills off Darth Maul. Vader can send people out to find them, and Obi Wan has to lead them a merry chase away from the kids....
Ewan MacGregor was the best thing about Ep I-III, so I'm happy to see him reprise the role. I hope they give him a great story.
Before the announcement their stock price was back to its 52 week high, and they have enough cash on hand to lose this much for more than a decade. I don't think they've taken a "real drubbing". I just should have held it after getting a smallish gain......
Stock price is not everything. In fiscal year 2019, they had a net income of about $10 billion. For 2020, that became a net loss of nearly $3 billion.
That not "made less money". That's "gone form massively profitable to losing billions". That's a drubbing. One they can handle, yes, but 2021 going to be similarly bad for its first half (because we aren't getting everyone vaccinated before June, realistically). So, setting up an expectation that it'll be okay in the long run, because they have got the stuff everyone wants to watch all lined up, is a decent strategy.

I also like to think that Obi-Wan kept an eye on the Empire's doings (He knew about pilots hanging out in Mos Eisley. Why would he be talking to pilots that travel to the core worlds unless he was getting news from them or making occasional trips?). Even if he stayed entirely on Tatooine, I think he would have gotten some account or a HoloNet report about the Emperor's strongman, Darth Vader. Knowing the name from the Jedi Temple security holos, and knowing the state he left Anakin on Mustafar, he could infer that Vader survived and connect the dots between Vader's appearance and his being "more machine than man."
