Star Wars prequel questions

Apparently not, because somehow Palpatine returned.
The shame of it is that Palpatine cheating death could have been a great payoff for the never really resolved Darth Plagueis's powers over life and death plotline from Revenge of the Sith. Yeah, trotting out the same old villain when he should be very dead is lame, but not having the overarching villain of the saga in the final trilogy is also lame.

But they would have needed to establish that he was still alive in one of the prior installments of the sequel trilogy, which would have required actual multi-film planning for those movies, which nobody thought was important for some reason.

It's amazing that there were multiple possible ways for the sequel trilogy to have hung together and been a satisfying package, but all of these highly paid people just said "you know, I'm sure it'll all work itself out on its own."

Thats what Dark Empire did. Palpatine came back but you found out 2nd half of act 1 1st movie equivalent.

And they examined it. Dark Empires not particularly well regarded.

I didn't care for those comic books not just because I didn't like the Emperor coming right back as a weird green clone, but also because (at least as I remember) they involved Luke falling to the Dark Side at the drop of a hat, and generally a giant plotline that didn't really tie in to the many sequel novels coming out at the same time (which I liked at the time. They hadn't yet become such a vast convoluted web of repetitive stories).

But yeah, I'm not saying "cloned emperor" was the best plotline for the sequel trilogy. I'm just saying that it would have been better if it was the overarching plot of that trilogy rather than something tacked on last minute for episode 9, even if it was just something vaguely foreshadowed in the earlier movies.

Introducing a new top villain for the trilogy (who could actually carry the weight of that role) also could have worked. Snoke was just never up to the task (at least not based on what we saw of him), and having him abruptly die in Episode 8 was a cool twist, but if you're going to kill off the apparent top villain halfway through part 2 of a trilogy, you should introduce the real big bad evil guy lurking in a shadow or something at the end of that movie.

If episode 9 had been about Emperor Kylo Ren, it would have worked, I think, especially with the Rebellion reduced to being small enough to fit onto a single ship.

I wish we had gotten some of the things teased after the original Star Wars came out.
No, you don't. When I was a wee tyke, my parents threw a blanket over me to sneak me into the drive-in. Then there were the Ralph McQuarrie photocell pictures and tales that SW was always meant to be 9 stories. Tales of the Whills...was never meant to be....

Here's an actual hot take: Return of the Jedi is the best of the original films

The end battle really was iconic and has really never been matched by any other SW movie. Rogue One came extremely close though.

You have Land, Space, and Diplomacy (Throne Room) battles all going on at the same time, playing off each other and just having it the wazoo.

Yup a d a great lightsaber fight.

Like, what the heck is Solo doing there lol.
But Solo? SOLO?!?!?!? Really? That is the bold take here.
I LIKE IT! It's better than Muppets and the prequels and sequels or anything Disney has put out. Disney SW is like walking down the street and finding a puddle of puke. Solo at least was trying to be something fresh. I Liked whoever played Han and Childish Gambino

Top 5 SW movie for me.
