Yeah, this was the message posted on the Wizards board:
This weeks normal Thursday update, which will include another Saga Ed preview from Rodney, will be delayed until Monday. This is due to my not being here to put it up until then.

Good lord, I know WotC isn't Amazon or eBay, but it's pretty flabbergasting that their online presence or lack thereof hangs on one employee.

Thanks for the news.

Rodney, if you're out there, please stay healthy.

Look folks, I think it's pretty straightforward: if a concept works, they'll hang onto it. If it doesn't, they'll drop it.

Of course, the fact that the two games have rather different default play styles needs to be kept in mind as well. In SW, the default style is playing a character like one of the Skywalkers or Solos. In D&D, the default style is much closer to playing one of the Fetts. ;)

I suppose I am alone in thinking that there should be less, not more, character customization should there be a 4th Edition. Make it a class based game again, not a point based one.
I think its possible to easily make a single system to accomadate both play styles.

Oh and if this actually turn out to be better than their last couple of attempts to make star wars d20 I might actually play it. So far it looks pretty good.

AMEN!!!

One of my buddies didn't make it to session last week, and so my friend wanted to run a pregenerated adventure (Bastion of Souls, or some such) and told us to make up 18th level characters. Sweet heavens, 3 hours later and we still had people generating. Less is sometimes a good thing.

If less is a good thing, then how come the people in the group didn't choose to use less? You can make a functional 18th lvl character in 15 minutes, unless you specifically choose to run through all of the different options out there.

The great thing with having lots of options, IMNSHO, is that one can choose to use as much or as little as one wants. If there are much less options, as in a heavily class-based system with limited optimization, then one only has the one choice. I'd rather have a lot more choice and count on my own judgement and ability to choose. YMMV, and apparently does.

QFT!

You can make an 18th-level character in 15 minutes or even less, if you use the Appendix of the PHB II.

I can't, for the life of me, understand why anyone would expect 18th-level chargen to be something one could do quickly for a one-shot*, much less that Bastion of Broken Souls is a good choice for a one-shot. Unless your one-shots tend to last 12 hours, I guess.

I don't think D&D is at fault here.

(Not to mention, you could have just hopped on the WotC site and grabbed the 20th-level PCs and encounters they posted from the GenCon delve and run that if a high-level one-shot was what your pal wanted.)

EDIT: * Barring useful tools like PHB2 or the magic item set in the new Compendium.
