Star Wars Saga Edition [SECR] Preview #8 is Up

Isn't that the way it always is? You never know you wanted the new and improved until someone showed it to you... :)

Now, if this IS as improved as it's looking to be, I may fall in love with it despite the "per encounter" stuff!

True, but unlike most I've never had really any complaints about the current rules...even the so-called clunky parts. So knowing me I'll end up running the revised d20 stuff and the Saga stuff :)

Well, I am reading it. So it must be available.

I believe that between the time the preview was written and now the book got delayed. :(

Seeing a character over a viewscreen now counts as "line of sight," which explains how Darth Vader was able to use Force grip on Admiral Ozzel while communicating with him shortly before the Battle of Hoth.

What do you think about this? Personally, i see potential abuse at the hands of crafty players. They set up remote cameras at different areas, and then Force Choke enemies that step into range. Or possibly any other power that just requires line of sight. Maybe i'm worrying too much :(

Me, I'd love players who showed that kind of forethought. If they want to speed the racking up of Dark Side points like that, go right ahead... :)

And yet apparently the web jockeys don't have enough sense to edit that part out.

Sounds like I great head start for DI...

hooray, no more "what angle is this turn? how many squares of movement do I have left? Which direction am I facing?" problems.

Some of us liked that. I still used the old boxed set SW board game from the 80s for starship battles.

On the other hand, Walmart.com just told me that they had the book in stock. I've already ordered it, and it should be in my hands by wednesday or Thursday of next week, according to them... :)

Star Wars Saga Preview #8

Starship and Vehicle Combat

Please note the previews were written months ago so they didn't know there were going to be a production issue delay.
Hmm....

On the surface, I have to say this is the first strike *against* the new rules. Naturally, I'm gonna hold off on full comments until I've digested the book and maybe even played a few rounds of space combat, but something about air combat being just space combat being just like land combat doesn't sit well with me. I actually kinda crave the differences.

Still, the rest of the stuff previewed looks astounding thus far, so maybe this will work out.

Quite frankly, everyone who has tried to make ship combat rules for Star Wars (both WEG and WotC) over every single edition, has found that the ship combat rules have NEVER been wildly popular, and every single edition has changed them in some fashion, even the four d6 WEG books had a different ship combat variant in every edition. That fact that they're closer to character scale combat is about the only thing they haven't tried, because I think everything else HAS been tried. :D

heh... Maybe they should have shipped a digital component to the RPG. Whenever you get into ship combat, you play multiplayer X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. :D
