Honestly, if you're new to RPGs and Star Wars d20, stick with the Core book and you'll do fine. When you get a good grasp of the rules, though, this thread has good suggestions.

how would you go about finding a local goup? I havent a clue... or should I try online?

If you've got a local game or comic store, they likely have a bulletin board where you can post a card saying you're looking for a game.

As online resources, you could check out the "Gamers Seeking Gamers" board here at ENWorld, or the "RPG Gamer Classified" board at wizards.com. In either case, I'd suggest scanning the current postings for anything near you, then posting a request if you don't find anything.

So that also includes how to make a lightsaber and/or how to use one?
How to use one? You mean your character? That's just a weapon proficiency feat, all Jedi characters get that for free, the weapon stats for lightsabers are in the core book. The game rules for making a lightsaber are also in the core book.

Thanks, and is it possible to get and use a lightsaber if you are non-Jedi/Sith?

Yes, but ...

1. They aren't for sale anywhere. You'd have to find one and somehow get it away from its owner. That is easier said than done.

2. You can use it, but at a -4 penalty to hit.

3. You can eliminate the -4 penalty by picking up the Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Lightsaber) feat. Although by the rules all you *need* to be able to use a lightsaber without penalty is that feat, as a GM I'd require that you find someone to teach you the feat. The skills required to fight effectively with such a weapon don't just fall out of the sky. Someone has to teach you. You get the feat *after* the training ... you don't just get the feat because you get to select a feat.

4. You can't do all the nifty Jedi stuff like deflecting blaster bolts and increasing the damage of the lightsaber. Those are Jedi-only class abilities. Non-Jedi that somehow find and learn to use a lightsaber are stuck at the base 2d8 damage.

5. Considering that, for all the trouble getting and effectively using a lightsaber is for a non-Jedi it's hardly worth it. You end up with a glowing stick that does less damage than a blaster and can only be used in melee range. A lightsaber only truly comes alive in the hands of a Jedi.
