Stargate and Star Trek

Oooh, a movie, too. As long as RDA's in it, that's awesome. Season 9 wasn't bad, but the show sure is missing something without O'Neill.

I like Atlantis, but like with 4400, we're a bit behind in seasons up here in Canada...where they make the freakin' show. And I'm game for a 3rd show.

I've found non-scifi fans to enjoy Stargate much more than shows like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, which adds to it's appeal as well.

Well, I just finished watching the syndicated eighth season and I hate to say this but RDA is the mainstay of SG-1. Even though he has moved behind-the-camera as a show's producer (mostly in absentia now that he's back home in the US for his family), I don't think I can see the show surviving much longer. It's not like ER and its "revolving door of actors" policy (even though the nostalgia wore off when George Clooney left).

I don't agree with this at all. I think adding Ben Browder and Claudia Black has added some much needed fresh blood. I know from reading a lot of Stargate boards that some people feel the show has jumped the shark since RDA left and there seems to be a split of people who love Vala and who hate her. But I have noticed a lot of new people who came from Farscape and now are hooked on Stargate.

I don't think it is a matter of RDA being the factor that keeps the show going but what stories the writers tell. If they can still write strong fun stories then I think the show can last a while longer.

As for ER one of my favorite shows I missed George Clooney but there were so many strong story lines in seasons after he left.

It took me a long time to catch on to Stargate SG-1, although in part that was due to its presence in syndication and the fact that the local affiliate running it kept changing their scheduling. :\

They tell some good stories, and it helps that it's set in a universe that's in a way more accessible to the average viewer than Star Trek's semi-utopian future. I think it also helps the Stargate franchise that they've set up a premise that doesn't require a lot of non-humanoid aliens. The audience can relate better to the characters because all the main characters are human.

I'm not too excited about a second spin-off, since although I like Atlantis I don't find it as compelling as SG-1. But I'd be willing to give it a chance.

Actually thinking about ti this would in fact be the 4th Stargate series, what with the animated Stargate Infinity (which I've never seen any of).

I've seen a couple of the cartoon episodes and they are okay as far as cartoons go, not something I'd rush home to see (or dodge class for like I did for Gargoyles:)) but okay.

Its aimed at teaching kids life lessons with characters driving fast vehicles and totting big guns:) They have a butterfly woman alien who is being hunted and an android amongst the core characters (the rest are human). Its set in the near future and involves a set of recruits and their leader who were blocked from returning to Earth by a traitor. Now they need to find another way home (whilst avoiding the enemies) and in the process visit various cultures and learn some valuable lessons (which are expoused to the audience - things like respect different cultures, be responsible, don't succumb to peer pressure and don't waste your life addicted to Video Games (and the Internet:)))

Then I hope I'm wrong. I'm looking forward to the syndicated 9th season this fall.
