D&D 5E Stargate D&D 5e details from gencon

Its very unfitting. Melee combat never played much role in Stargate. Instead they had extensive gunfights while being in cover.
And that is something 5E (or D20 in general) with its bloated HP can't do very well.
Why not? Hit points seem like a great way to simulate the extended firefights that SG1 weathers with only minor flesh wounds on a regular basis.
Most combats in SGRPG will devolve into genre untypical fist or knife fights.
Not necessarily. And a certain amount of melee combat is far from atypical. Teal'c in SG1 and Teyla in Atlantis were both rather partial to it.

They already said that they are changing the way HPs works for Stargate, larger starting hps, but with a much more gradual rise in hps

Yeah, hp do well imo at covering the extended combats. All that's needed to simulate the vagaries of stargste to me as a core element is to add conditions to hits in dome cases.

If gunshots can also stun or incapacitate or even inflict dying death saves in certain circumstances- unarmored, not behind cover, certain weapons, etc - on certain results then you wind up with hood in-system benefits for vover, armor etc.

Other systems have adopted 5e to scyfy just fine. Maybe they want SG1 grittier or not but nothing in HP says it wont work. We will know more once we see their class and damage rules.

The biggest tactical mechanics issue to resolve is imo the zat gun. It gets pretty ubiquitous after a few seasons and was only held in check by plot conceits - which us difficult to get through in an rpg.

But for Brae'tac's sake, I hope the tog designers watch the test fire episode between staff weapon and P90 this time.

Honestly I think HPs should be renamed Stamina Points, functionally it makes more sense.
Endurance also works for me. Since Stargate doesnt have to carry over the D&D legacy naming, its possible.

Although, even that cosmetic a name change has to bex weighed realistically against the "like 5e" appeal. The easier it is for 5e fans to move over, the fewer cosmetic differences, the more they may bring in.

I have a pet theory that the Forgotten Realms inspired Stargate.
I'm skeptical that Roland Emmerich or Dean Devlin had any whiff of interest or inkling in your favorite D&D setting. More likely influences probably include Buck Rogers and the 25th Century, Flash Gordon, Star Trek, and the bizarrely circulated crackpot ideas that aliens were responsible for the creation of the pyramids.
