Stargate SG-1/Atlantis (9/17 SPOILERS)

First Post
Wow, I was waiting for someone else to start this!

I'm gonna start with Atlantis, because my feelings about this episode are easier to express. I personally thought the episode rocked. Pretty much all of the characters were spot on this week, and the premise made great sense (except the merging storms thing, but that was minor).

I'm not sure why Sheppard is allowed to negotiate... he's obviously the most incompetent person out there to do it. Hopefully Teyla steps up into that role eventually, as her character seems to be much better at it. Also, was it really necessary to explain the whole grounding station plan twice? And why wasn't there a transporter near the far ones? I'm also surprised the Genai didn't want McKay as well, to force him to do research, since he did offer once already to help them. Ah well, mostly minor things, I think.

SG-1 on the other hand... it seemed really contrived to me. It's obviously a setup for a huge war, because Baal must know that the poison is coming from Earth. Maybe I just was bleh because I figured it out in about ten minutes of show time. Also, I'm fairly willing to bet we're gonna see Jack step down as the leader at the end of this season... he's just no good at it.

Sam and Daniel have a great rapport on the screen, and in a way I'm glad Jack isn't there so we can see them interact more. Also, Sam kicking one guy's butt with her hands behind he back while Daniel gets his butt handed to him was cool. Overall though, I was a bit diappointed with SG-1 this episode, and really this entire season so far.

I was impressed with Atlantis, strong character build up. Sheppard, while looking like a bad negotiator is not, I have to say I like his handling. My feelings are that we are going to find out that lightling repowers Atlantis any way and but by unhooking them does not fully charge it. The Genni are turning into a very interest group and can see them being very important in the story.

Stargate - was fair, I like the Earth story lines

I liked both. I can see why people are saying Ford is the "Merriweather" dude in this episode. "Ohhh. I get to sit in a ship in a storm". Though it's obvious, at least I hope, that they will be coming in for the rescue in the next episode. And then Shephard goes from being a bad azz to a wussy at the end.

I must have missed how that Trust guy escaped after being zatted by Amanda, I guess they did it off screen.

Unfortunately I missed the eps for both series which provided the background for these eps.

ARGH!!!! *wolf rolls a natural 1 on his VCR programming check*

missed both!! ... and to be more accurate, I forgot to put a tape in the machine.

oh well, looked on scifi.com and it looks like they're going to show all summer season again ...

I think they handled the end of the SG-1 episode poorly. "Okay, the ship's going into hyperspace, so we have to run." How about, instead, you capture the chick on the flight deck and fly home with a nice new Al'Kesh, and maintain control of that nerve gas?

Yeah, I thought about that as well.

Exactly my thoughts. With all of SG-1 on board and only one enemy, I'd have tied up the stunned guy and gone after her. Ah well.

Regarding SG-1, yeah...that was a bad handling of the ending.

Atlantis was pretty damn good. What they've done with the Genai makes sense. The Wraith are such a large and encompassing threat, doing a story of a planet in league with them would be a little silly. So...you have stories where the other planets don't trust the Earthers/Tau'ri/Atlanteans and figure they can handle it themselves, with proper access to E/T/A technology.

In fact...That's probably why the Alarians betrayed Atlantis. "Let's see. On one hand, here is this group who just got to this galaxy...they woke up the Wraith early and don't seem able to handle it. On the other hand, this other group has been in this situation since the beginning, they seem to have a plan, and we know of them. ... I'll side with Group B."

Atlantis is taking off. It didn't take them that long to find each character's voice...except Ford's. He's still just a proper military man.

When she came aboard and was zatted, one of the Trust fellows there told the other "Grab a locator beacon and get down there and get our guy up here as well."

While I liked SG-1 this season, nothing happened with Baal. The characters in Atlantis need some conflict in their background. Jack had his son that died, T'ilk is fighting his gods, Daniel's wife was killed, etc. Unfortunately, the episode last week did not do this.
