Why would they print a sourcebook for each season? All they need to print is a Technology sourcebook with all the stats of the stuff seen in the show. And a planets sourcebook of many different planets, but they don't need a book for each season.

The approach the design team is taking is a bit different. It's also very ambitious, and potentially extremely cool. Each season is getting a book. Within that book, each episode gets a chapter. Not only does it go in depth into things appearing in that episode, including such things as stats for the NPC's, but it EXPANDS on the episode. Each of those worlds will be fleshed out, with histories and details that couldn't be displayed in 40 minutes.

In addition, there will be other sourcebooks. There are already books planned for System Lords (there's a no-brainer!) and Uncharted Planets. Basically, show canon has already established that there are literally THOUSANDS of possible destinations. There is no way the show will ever cover more than a fraction of them. MGM has given AEG free license to make up a bunch of other planets, that will be incorporated back into the canon (though probably never used on the actual show).

It is an extremely ambitious schedule.

Yes, it's true. I just finished up my work on the Season One Sourcebook and let me tell you it greatly expands upon each episode. The idea is that we take each episode, pick out a relevant concept or item, and then flesh that concept out with all-new material and adventure hooks for the Gamemaster to use. The book will provide Gamemasters with ways to use famliar items, places, locales, etc. while still giving their own SG team unique adventures.

OhMyDearLord, that's useful! :)

Thanks, Rodney! I may start picking those up, even if I never play Stargate! :) The amount of adventure ideas is staggering.

I second the coolness factor of having season guides (and big thumbs up to the AEG guys for going with it and doing it! :D ) mainly for these reasons:

- since the show is currently an on-going one (in the seventh season, with an eighth planned), it eliminates the problem of a "general information" style book being rendered dated as new episodes are released since the information will be based on a specific timeframe.

- for certain campaigns, the GM could just say "we're going to start at the beginning of season 3" and limit the gaming resources to core + season 1 & 2 books, and go from there. Now, staying to canon might not be big for some, but it might be for others, and the choice is there to follow continuity or to pick and choose.

As a fan of the show (and gaming), I've be surprised (in a good way! ;) ) by alot of what AEG has done and plan to do with the license.

Okay, now my interest in the season guides is peaked. In fact, I have to put in a vote and say that its a good idea.

So, like, when are they coming out so I can use them? :D

Oh, to any of the design team, will you guys be putting any adventures on your website or publishing some adventures. The one thing I was hoping for was a quick introductory adventure in the main book to help first time Stargate SM (Stargate Masters, or Star Masters, take your pick :D ) get a group going relatively quickly.

Well, I just got the book in the mail today. At 1st glance the book is nice and thick and filled with information. The episode guide is actually rather short (28 pages or so), only describing the episodes that are pertinent to the overall story line.

I am currently in the Second Chapter (The stargate program). I must say this chapter is very informative. It details standard Team Assignment (from covert ops to engineering corp to marines, to exploration units), along with the in-character standard requirements for being selected for a team (such as jump certification, marksman certification, ect). It also provides information on being recruted into the SGC, Charter of the SGC, a detailed description of each level of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, information on the stargate, mission profiles, and SGC Operation Procedures. Very informative section that does not include any mechanics. A good read if you are into Stargate.

I have not gotten to the rules section yet, as I am looking through each chapter one at a time and am still digesting chapter 2. I plan on writing a review (my first) for the book. It will probally be about a week before I can finish one though. This is one huge book.

Hey ES2 you could call the GM the "GateMaster".

or System-Lord
or System-Overlord
Gate-Lord

SGCC (Stargate Command Commanders!)

So...now this is Not a Stand Alone book correct?
You need a "core book" to run it?

So if you had the main Spycraft book would that be enough to run it?

(I do have 3.0 and 3.5 but that's D&D ;))

My understanding all you need is a corebook that has the XP table in it. Be it 3.0, 3.5, StarWars, StarWars Revised, Wheel of Time and a couple others, I think. Granted I could be wrong, since I don't have the Stargate book and probably wont due to cash flow issues.
