STARGATE UNIVERSE #6:Water/Season 1/2009

I don't think they have enough water; they lost half (or so) of their reserves during the episode, and only brought back one sledful of ice. I don't think it was enough.

The problem was that they were loosing too much of it, now with the alien off the ship; they should be able to maintain some. What I would do, is start setting up away teams for the next few planets - a couple for water gathering, soil gathering (remember those seeds) and food gathering.

I'm sure they'll give us some exposition in a future episode about their routine for the gathering of basics. So without an actual crisis, I think they'll come up with an appropriate handwave mechanism.

It was an OK episode. It's nice to finally have some action. Eli is definitely stepping up and getting things done. He's a bit immature, but he still makes all the other scientists except Rush look useless.

I like Colonel Young, and think he's the best leader they have, but he puts himself in jeopardy too frequently. He had no business on the ice planet.

As for water problems, they've already mentioned the ship's water recycling system. Once they get that up and running, it shouldn't be a major problem.

Right. I get the picture that they have a closed system. The water shouldn't go anywhere except back and forth between the ship and people's bodies. The problem was that due to the desert alien they were having a net loss of water. In a closed system like the ship the amount of water should always remain relatively the same. They might need more to be comfortable, but they can probably survive on their remaining water and that sledful of ice.

I think another of Eli's strengths is going to be related to morale somehow. He seems to be maintaining a relatively positive outlook in spite of the grim situation, and because both the civilians and miliary personnel seem to get along with him, he might end up helping keep everyones spirits up or something.

He seems to be the type of commander that doesn't ask people to do something he's not willing to do himself. He's going to have to balance that out with sending people on missions who are more expendable without seeming indifferent to what happens to them either.

With all of his comments that he had experience with ice and stuff, I thought he was going to say something like he enjoys ice fishing.

Was not it mentioned that only Young and Scott were the only 2 who could actually use the suits properly? Im sure I heard something like that spoken.

As for the Suit design. Yes it is a reuse of the 'Dark Asgard' suit from the last season of Atlantis, which may tell viewers about the origins of that piece of Asgard technology. I know it was a deliberate reuse of the suit, not a reuse of some old wardrobe props.

Now that the ship has 40 percent of its total power levels, it should be interesting to see what other parts of the ship they will be able to access.

Not sure about that but I seem to recall them not both going on the shuttle together last episode because Young didn't want to risk them both as the only two pilots, no?

No, when Col. Young tells Lt. Scott that they're going together, Scott mentions someone else who has done EVA before. Even if they had been the only two, it would still make more sense to go over the basics with another soldier and send him/her with Scott. Young's injuries made him a physical liability on the mission. There is also no reason to send the two highest ranking people on a risky mission together. Once Young decided to go himself, he should have chosen someone else to go with him.

Of course it's a TV series, and they wanted to give the leads time in front of the camera.

Still, they should be at least having people in the suits training, they will be using them for possible ship repairs and such!
