Starmetal + aasimar

Could an Aasimar wield a Starmetal mace? I mean, the starmetal mace deals +2d6 damage to outsiders.. and an aasimar is an outsider.. but would the handle of the mace also be made of star metal? I guess this is open for interpretation though..

Can an aasimar wield an outsider bane weapon? Heck, can a human wield a non-magical greatsword? After all, greatswords deal a flat 2d6 to humans. That'll easily kill most commoners.

Unless the Starmetal weapon says something in it's text about hurting outsiders who wield it, then no, it doesn't.

Starmetal is in Complete Arcane.

"Weapons made of starmetal deal an extra 1d6 points of damage to any extraplanar creatures while they are on Material Plane."

That is an extra damage of a weapon. It does not cause damage to someone just holding it.

Also, in material plane of usual settings, an aasimar is not an extraplanar creature. It is Outsider (Native).

Indeed.. I thought it said Outsider.. the reason I asked is because I figured Starmetal would be "poisonous" to outsiders. I mean if something caused extra damage while struck by it, it would also be at least uncomfortable holding it..

I don't think it would be at all far-fetched for a DM to rule that a Bane weapon had the same ability to weaken an enemy as a Lawful or Good weapon did, namely 2 negative levels while it is held.

I would think that damage by starmetal is more disruptive, so that's why it does more damage. Bane on the other hand, I would rule that it's magicaly activated damage from coming in contact with someone of that alignment, and perhaps have it do non-lethal damage to the wielder to "resist" being used.

I think the confusion is coming from the fact that fey and demons can't stand the touch of cold iron, and the person is attributing those same properties to starmetal in reference to outsiders.

Can't touch? Is that a rule for D&D? I know there is such legend but I can' find that statement in DMG.

That's flavor text. In fact, fey who kill other fey are usually statted as using cold iron weapons, IIRC.
